I never usually take travel insurance, but am going to do it this time given the weather etc. So, I don't need medical as we are covered through the company etc. So basically I need only trip cancellation/interuption. But I have to tell them how much accomodation cost. We are DVC owners, how do you put a cost on that??

DVC is now offering an annual trip insurance. I do not know the details. Check the DVC website and / or the DVC board it might be cheaper.

I saw that and I tried to work with them and they were not up to speed on it. I had to book it y/day and no one knew anything to help out. I'm going to try again and see if anyone can help me now or if I am too late.

And I called back. Sadly they still don't know what they are talking about. Different CM's telling me differnt things. Back to the drawing board then.

I booked at BLT for December today and they were trying to sell it to me. Be prepared to get the pitch next time you book with MS.

From what I understand it was $79 for everyone in our entire party. That's a pretty good deal since we booked a 2 bedroom and there will be 9 of us traveling.

With or without other insurance I always feel having too much insurance going to the U.S. is better than getting a surprise if someone has to receive medical attention. Call me paranoid but I've heard horror stories of people ending up with massive bills from hospital visits.

Because I borrowed from my 2012 use year it would also cover the remaining points from next year too which I thought was a great deal. You have to book it at least 31 days prior to travel.

It never hurts to compare and shop around.

Perhaps referencing it will help

I did see this and did reference to it. The problem was that I booked this trip in a hurry and did not have 31 days, but was told I could still add it on the day I booked (the day before y/day) by 2 CM's and by Travel X. Fine let me think about it and call you back. Got very busy and called back just before 5:30 closing time, CM in a hurry to go home I guess says it can be booked on-line. I went to do this and there was a quote # etc required so I got frustrated and gave up. Long story short, I called back y/day just to tell them the problem I had and see if someone could still help me add on. I was prepared for a "no, sorry too late', but instead what I heard was that even if I had done it on the day off booking, it could not be used for this trip. This CM insisted that both CM's from the previous day and Travel X were wrong. That is why I am frustrated. So now I'm trying to look elsewhere for this trip, though this looks like a good deal for future trips as it covers points and that's where I am having a hard time finding someone here who will do it.

Sounds like you're getting consistently inconsistent information. I hope it works out for you.

I've found such a difference in CM's at MS.
Some are absolutely phenomenal and others just make we want to hang up and try again.
FWIW I spoke to Elvira yesterday and she was great and seemed to know a lot about the new insurance.

DVC really needs to do a better job with consistent training of their CM's especially with a new option like insurance. IMO it's even more important for Canadians because of the disparity in health care systems and the financial risks in the U.S. for us.

Have you checked out a possible CAA option? That's usually who I get my travel insurance from.

Good luck.

You seem to understand my frustration, and like you, I have had some excellent CM's at MS, some though, in a hurry to get off the phone with you. So, this actually has gotten worse. I spoke to Travelex directly and the lady there told me no worries, it's either 31 days, but if you book at the last minute, like, then the 31 days don't count and I could still purchase. She apologized for MS, saying it's a new product so they dont' know and I understand that. She told me I could do it on-line and we actually did it while I was on the phone. I was happy until I called MS for other stuff and then told them that I was able to purchase the insurance after all. Well, what do you know - MS says not possible and then put me on hold to check wtih Travelex who confirms that it CANNOT be used for this trip etc but will cover other my next trip. I usally go in September and even with Hurricane season, I don't take insurance, but in winter, I'm more inclined to buy it. So now I have sent an email to Travelex so they can confirm or deny via email and at least I will have it on file, in case of a claim. The thing is, if it does not cover this trip, I would like my money back for being mis-lead, but this is now between me and Travelex, so we will have to see how that goes. But I spoke to a supervisor in MS and she understands my frustration and was going to put it in writing to her managers etc as they need to be direceted properly (her own words, not mine).
