Am just about to book our Dec trip and we normally get our travel insurance from Tesco (more points and all that...)

On looking at the info before I pay for it I wanted to check the exclusions as I will be 28 weeks pregnant when we travel.
Tesco say they wont pay for any claim arising directly or indirectly from:
- Pregnancy during the eighteen weeks immediately before your estimated date of delivery or 7 days after delivery.

Is this pretty standard? In laymans terms does that mean if anything happens any hospital treatment is not covered or is that what an E111 is for?

Has anyone else looked at tihis and found a policy which covers you as I know there have been a few pg ladies on the boards who are going soon or have been recently...

Many thanks!

I think what this means is:

If you were to fall and break your arm, then that should be covered as it is not related to your pregnancy.

If on the other hand, you were to go into labour early, suffer a complication of your pregnancy or anything else which only could have happened because you are pregnant, then you would not be able to claim for this.

I could find a policy that covered the wife for pregnancy while abroad however it was approx £150 for the week :scared1:

The travel insurance would cover you for anything that happened while abroad that was not due to a pre-existing medical condition. You would need to look for insurance that covers pre-existing medical conditions in order to cover yourself.

I beleive that the E111 would cover pregnancy abroad but I stand to be corrected.

Just checked an advice website

E111 advice

And the E111 would cover you for pregnancy but you would have to pay 25% of any hospital fees and 30% of any doctors or dentists fees, the rest is covered by the E111
