I was wondering if anyone has ever purchased travel insurance for their runDisney trips. If so, with what company and what did cover and what wasn't covered? Has anyone had to file a claim on a runDisney trip?

When I did my registration for this year's Dopey, I thought about getting insurance, but I didn't know where to begin and it kind of fell off my radar screen until it was too late. But after seeing all of the travel headaches that people had this year (in addition to the illnesses and injuries that came up) and the possibility of having to eat the cost of the non-refundable race registration fees, I would like to gather some information for future trips.

I do not buy separate travel insurance, but do make sure I use a specific credit card when I purchase travel (Chase Sapphire Preferred). No, it won't cover everything, but it will cover many things. So I would start by checking your cards and seeing what they cover. "Covid" and "cancel for any reason" are not covered, but a lot of other stuff may be (illness, injury).

A few years ago, I did purchase race cancellation insurance for a race I was planning to do (can't remember which....maybe Wineglass?) through Allianz (who also cover NYC marathon, which I bought). I had to cancel, got a note from my doctor (it was due to injury) and they refunded very quickly for the cost of the race. But that was for race fees only, not travel. RD doesn't offer that (if I recall correctly)

Do you know if it would have covered the travel too - if it was applicable? Was there a special type of policy bought through the race or something you purchased on your own? If on your own, do you know what it was called?

The insurance was just for the race fees. I purchased through the race--it was offered as part of the registration process.
