I got an online quote for my FIL's travel insurance today - £8 which is not bad. He has high blood pressure (is on medication) so I had to phone for a quote. The new quote was £29. Still not bad, you might think - but... I was told that his medical condition would not be covered! I asked for clarification and she said any medical condition, cancellation etc related to high blood pressure would NOT be covered under this policy. So, is this usual for pre-existing medical conditions? What's the point of taking out this expensive insurance as opposed to the cheap one?:confused3

i no what you mean,
my partner has asthma she has 3 inhalers, never been hospitalised, or anything else like that.
tried the post office, 2 persons 17 days in total normal cover £87
when we spoke about her asthma £150

i am still looking for insurance.

Funny as we're having similar problems at the moment. My Dad has type 2 diabetes and now requires tablets to control it. We informed the insurance (which he gets free with his bank account) and what was free insurance now has an £80 charge! Good luck on finding something cheaper :)

where did you find insurance for £8?
Ive never claimed anything on any insurance, and its £30-80 the quotes ive been receiving.

the pre existing clause for blood pressure is the norm. with travelling to florida hurricanes will not be covered either (theres a season, its known about etc)

weird set up is the ash cloud, some insurers are dealing with the cloud as a pre existing issue (ie tough) others are dealing with each airspace closure as an independent incident.

Sorry, he's not going to Florida, he's going to Corfu - hence the low cost of insurance.

My main gripe is that he's paying extra to NOT be covered for his medical condition.:confused3

I've taken out Columbus world wide travel insurance for 12 months for £175 for 4 of us (we are travelling to USA twice within a year so cheaper than 2 separate trips). I'm the only one without a pre existing condition. On the application form you type in the condition(s) and it asks you various question relating to the problem (drugs taken, hospital appts etc) and at the end states whether it will accept you can gives a price. The most serious condition we have is our eldest DS had major heart surgery at birth and it asked about oxygen requirements, walking up stairs that sort of thing. They were recommended by other members of a holiday forum.

My son also has asthma and I have just taken out annual travel insurance with virgin money and they covered him with no extra cost. For the 5 of us i Think it was £110

I've just had trouble getting insurance for a city break to Paris. I thought I'd found what I needed but when I started looking through the extras (winter sports, excess waiver etc.) I noticed a box for independent travel - no explaination, just a tick box. When I phoned I found out this meant my trip with Eurostar and hotel booked seperately would not be covered.

The maddening thing was that I'm aware this happens and had been looking for this particular restriction everywhere on their website but couldn't find any reference to it under the list of exclusions.

Anyway, I found a better deal that does cover my trip. :)

Who did you find?

I went on the Gotravel website but got redirected to etravelinsurance.co.uk because of DHs pre-existing medical condition. They were very reasonable, no extra premium because DH hasn't needed treatment for over 2 years and they covered our independent travel and hotel plans which was essential.

I did pay extra to waive the excess but I usually do that as I prefer to be fully covered in case of problems.

we went with insureandgo, as i am still "under a specialist athopsital" most insurers wouldnt touch me with a barge pole, they were v good, £137, the closest other quote was £350:scared1:
tracy

Wow, that is quite a difference!

You would not believe the problem i had insuring Isabelle...oh my it was a nightmare, beacuse her treatment (she was prem underwent heart surgery needed oxygen for months still classed as lung disease) fell inside the year we was getting quote for like £1000 or wont cover her, we rang bliss and everything, it was a nightmare.

My grandad caused problems too used a company through help the aged in the end.

also but lol t some of the standard questions, can she walk 20 meteres, can she climb stairs without being breathless......ermm noo shes 11 months!!

I have annual travel cover as part of my Halifax Current Account :)

Last year I called to tell them about my high bloodpressure and the medication I take - it cost me £24.
This year it's a similar price - this extra cost is because my hypertension is covered.............. ;)

Similarly though I have friends with travel insurance who don't have to pay extra fees despite being on medication.....think much depends on the policy underwriters........
