so here's my plan...flying into Providence and taking the train to boston to see the cardinals play bosox...then taking train to new york to see play yankees...then taking train back to providence to fly out...so here is my questions(i'm depending on you guys)
1.how far or how long does it take to get from the airport to the train station in providence and what mode of transportation would you take (preferably fastest)

2. where would you stay (vicinity/hotel) that is close to the amtrak terminal

3. where would you stay in new york that is close to penn station but will also get us quickly (subway?) to yankee stadium...we will not have any sightseeing time so looking for convience

thanks guys

so I am going to bump this back up.......if you want to come to Maine I know a few good places......:p

I could help with the Boston leg, but you sem all set there. I know in Providence everything is not to far from everything, it is a small city...No idea on NY.

The Providence train station is in the center of downtown - across from the Providence mall and near the State house. It's a very small city so pretty much any hotel downtown is fairly close.

I know the Biltmore Providence is very nice, and there's a Mariott, a Westin , a Radisson, and a Holiday Inn as well I believe.
The closest is probably the Mariott and the Biltmore

I do have to warn you that Providence is filled with narrow one way streets and is currently undergoing quite a bit of construction - that makes it very confusing to get around if you're not familiar with the area. And parking can be a nightmare.

TF Green airport is actually not in Providence. I would say it's about 20- 30 min from downtown, but with construction and traffic it can take longer. I live in North Providence, which is 10min outside the city and closer to the airport (It's off a different hwy) and it takes me 20min to get to the airport. I would go with an airport shuttle to get you to and from the airport. I believe TF Green has it's own website with listings of airport shuttles.

To get from the hotel to the train station, I would call a cab. There's no parking at the Providence station- at least not much considering the number of people that commute. The train to Boston takes an hour.

I hope this helps a bit. Living so close to the area, it's hard to pay attention to things like hotels and airport transfers.

Here's a link to info about getting to Yankee Stadium

Go Yankees

Just about any Midtown hotel would serve your purpose. The Marriott Marquis comes to mind. The team the Yankees are playing stays at the Grand Hyatt at Grand Central Terminal, if that's of any interest to you.

I just wanted to be sure that you know it's a 4-5 hour train ride between Boston and NYC.
