If I book a package either through Disney or using a travel agent is it required that I purchase tickets for all of my family, it is 4 of us and we will be in one room. Would it be possible to only buy 2 tickets with the package and then buy 2 from undercover tourist? Would like to purchase erase a couple of them but need them to code as travel.

I am looking at doing a trip Dec17. I have enough SPG points to do a good bit of it at the Swan or Dolphin but I was thinking about adding a couple days on the front and back of the trip at other Disney resorts as well as 10 day tickets. If I understand correctly that would also give us access to the ME and free magic bands.

I have never booked a package before not exactly sure how that works.

If anyone has any better way to book and buy tickets while also using points to cover a lot of the cost I would love to hear it.

For your situation, book a room-only onsite reservation and purchase tickets through a 3rd party discounter for the most savings.

If I book the first and last couple nights of our trip as room only through Disney I assume I will have access to ME but what about getting magic bands? Do I just need to buy those separately?

If I book room only and discounts are release in the future will I be able to apply those or do I need to go through a travel agent for that? I assume they do offer room only discounts sometimes, I am not that familiar with how all that works though.

If you book onsite, you will receive magic bands. They will work as your room key, park admission, charging etc while you are staying on property. When you move to the Sawn, you can still use it for park admission and fast passes but nothing else (as long as you have your tickets linked)

If you book yourself or if you use an agent, you can apply discounts when they come out later. Up until 30 days prior to travel, there is no penalty. Once you are within the 30 days, there is a penalty for booking a lower price- check and see if the penalty is less than the discount.

Pros and cons of using an agent.

If you use a good agent, they will keep an eye out for discounts and have them applied for you. If you book with a crappy agent, they will miss the offers and you can't do anything about it except tell them that the offer came out and hope they try to get it for you.

If you do book with a travel agent, you cannot make changes to your reservation - all changes must go through them. You d have control of all of your own ADRs and FPs.

If you book a package, everyone in a room must be on the same package.

I did book a trip for a client who had two people in the room on a package with tickets. They had a friend join them partway through the trip and I was able to add them even though the package did not match. I don't know if it was a fluke or not, I only did it once.

I agree that everyone must be on the same package if booked at the same time.
