Has anyone had the Friday night "Pasta Cucina" meal at PBH?

What did you think? Quality of food, atmosphere, value for the price?

How many characters were there, and which ones?

Ihave been to the pasta cucina night, but it wasn't on a Friday with the characters( during the summer they tend to do the Pasta Cucina nightly).I thought it was delicious and well-worth the money though..It came with Soup, Salad, bread and you design your own pasta dishes fresh from the chef. There are different sauces, a variety of pastas and fill ins ( sausage,Shrimp,Meatballs) etc

Mmmmm......sounds delicious! I will have to keep this one on the "maybe" list for our arrival day :) . Thanks for the feedback!

Pasta night is good choice there and casual dress is fine. Dh says steak is always good too. Salad bar is just basic but fresh

Hi Gina!:goodvibe

Tratoria is one of our favorites. We have done the pasta buffet many times and loved it. Good food and good value. We have seen Scooby there many times. If you can, try to fit in breakfast one morning, their breakfast buffet is the BEST!

Thank you both! :thumbsup2

Still wiffle-waffling between Margaritaville and Tratoria. Both have their merits!!

Margaritaville would be significantly less expensive with our AP discount....which means we could enjoy a round of mini golf afterwards for the same overall cost. But Tratoria sounds a little more "elegant" for an anniversary dinner....and has characters (yep, I'm really just a big kid).

Decisions, decisions!

Go for Tratoria for a really nice dinner. Maragritaville is one of our favorites, but there's not many places in there to be intimate. Plus, it's basically bar food, and while we like that kind of food, if it was DH and me, alone, I'd pick Tratoria.

Okay, reviving this thread because I'm considering Tratoria's pasta buffet for our upcoming April trip.

Does anyone know if AP holders receive a discount here?

Even at its regular price, though, its cheaper than the Disney character breakfast we have planned .... I was thinking this would give our newest travelling companion (who is celebrating her 19th birthday) a character meal experience that's a little more "grown up" than Disney's. She's never done a character meal before, so she has no expectations of what it will be like.

never asked at any of the hotel restuarants, guess i'll find out if i should be kicking myself soon lol

tratoria is usually our defaut when staying @ PBH to use our resort credit. Convenient, casual and kid-friendly. did the Islands character meal with my GD in November, she liked it but seemed disappointed. Turned out she had hoped to go back to the place where she "tells the cook what to do"...referring to the pasta bar at Tratoria...this coming from a 5 y.o.

once again give a shout out to the LaBamba breakfast for extensive character interaction with both little and big kids who still want to have fun.

With a little searching on the Universal website, I was actually able to find the answer to that question...thought this might help you, too (start digging out that AP more often, my friend :thumbsup2):

https://www.universalorlando.com/Theme-Park-Tickets/Annual-Passes/Premier-Pass-Discounts.aspx

  • 10% off food and non-alcoholic beverages at the following restaurants:
    • All dining outlets at Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort
    • Islands Dining Room at Loews Royal Pacific Resort
    • The Kitchen at Hard Rock Hotel®
    • Trattoria del Porto® at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel

This is for the premier passes specifically, but it looks like the discount is the same for preferred AP holders too.

lol savings would've bought us another drink, or two each trip. took me awhile to remember in the parks, need to get in the habit of asking.

Hi Gina!
We love this place! We have preferred aps and always get the discount. Time dinner right and you can hear the singing outdoors. They also have great gelato next to Sals.

I just realized that the Friday night (when the characters are there) won't work with our current itinerary....we're tenatively planned to be at SeaWorld all day :headache: (with the all day dining plan).

I will have to see if we can work it in on another night. Drat!!

Hi Gina,

Not sure if you had your heart set on Italian but Islands has characters on Wednesday and Thursday and one other night, not sure which one currently and the Kitchen has characters for dinner on Saturday.

the past year the other night was saturday but it has been known that the character dining does change at times.

I had actually considered the Kitchen (I know my crew would love their menu as well), but alas....we are at a Jays/Rays game that night .

The Islands I'm not so sure on. Steve and I would love it, but the big kids  . I might have them take a peek at the menu and see what they think.

Islands just had scooby & shaggy in November. Not sure if they typically have more. I inquired of hostess and was told they never know who will be appearing on any given night...along the lines of who is working and available.
