I've been reading through many threads the last few days as my upcoming trip to Aulani is less than 3 weeks away now. I'm wondering if anyone has gone and not rented a car and used the bus system. Did you feel you should have rented a car? If you used the bus system were you happy with it?

Thanks

I don't have any answers but was kinda thinking the same thing as we are tentatively planning a trip to Aulani in 2014. Hope you get some answers!;)

I don't think buses come in to Koolina -it is a gated community,

I've been looking into this as well, and it appears that the nearest bus stop is about a mile away, near the resort complex gate. "The Bus" website has a map showing the location and as best I could determine the trip into Honolulu takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours (I've driven it in 45 min by car mid-day), depending on where you're actually going, with at least one change of bus. Good news is that the fare is only $2.50.

I also saw something about Aulani providing a bus into Honolulu 3 times a week for about $30 RT.

I'd also appreciate any additional information as we'll only be at Aulani for a few days before heading to Kauai. We visited Oahu last year so DW wants to spend our limited time at Aulani without a rental car.

The car rentals right now are astronomical. I just don't know if I'd utilize a rental to make that expense worth it but now it sounds like that might be possible. Hopefully some others will comment on this post. I heard 'The Bus' is great though. And a mile isn't that far to walk.

There is a shopping shuttle that runs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It leaves at 8:30 and returns at 5:30 and goes to Aka Moana, DFs Galleria and Waikele Center. We didn't use it so I don't have any information about cost or actual schedule. -- Suzanne

I posted about his on my blog while Aulani was being developed. Long story short, don't use the city bus, TheBus. It may be cheap, but there are issues with allowing luggage on the bus, transfers, crossing a busy 5 lane highway and then walking into the resort where part of that walk there are no side walks. It is dangerous and troublesome. Please don't put yourself and your family at risk. The last I talked to someone who lives in Ko Olina, the home owners won't allow a bus route into the property.
