We got back home this week. It was our one week relaxing trip, putting our DDE card to good use and did some behind the scenes tours. Rode only two rides. Since we had time, we traveled around the world (literally). Here are some comments regarding transportation (both bus and car) in and around WDW.
1.The new road (Western Way) by Coronado Springs is open and very nice. There is the Welcome to Walt Disney World arch at the property line. The new road allows you to see more of the behind the scenes infrastructure of WDW. On one side it looks like greenhouses and plots of land where they grow the plants and bushes used in the landscaping. On the other side, it looks like the recycling center.
2.As you are coming into WDW from 192 on Sherberth (sp?) Road, right before the light at Osceola Pkwy, there is a WDW sign stating, All guest areas turn right. If you go straight, it is the bus and CM entrance into DAK. But what about turning left to go to the AKL? No wonder the AKL occupancy is low - nobody will turn left to get there
.
3.As you are coming into WDW on World Center Dr., there is a sign saying to turn right to go to the Epcot area resorts. It lists S/D, YC/BC, but still does not list BWI. I wrote WDW many years ago about that (at that time our first stay at BWI and I didnt make the turn because it wasnt listed) and they still havent fixed it.
.
4.I always thought that the AK / AKL bus was a dedicated bus going back and forth between the two. Friday afternoon (May 12) we were waiting for the AKL bus at AK. It pulls up and the bus was packed (never saw it like that before, especially in the afternoon). The bus actually came from the TTC. As Tyler says, the busses are dynamic.
5.For those that dont believe that there are park to park busses, I have taken pictures of the bus depot sign at each park, showing which bus stops service the other parks. Here is one from the AK park.
6.In my never ending search for proof that the TTC used to be called the Ticket and Transportation Center (now called the Transportation and Ticket Center), the AK sign above for the TTC says it all
7.There were some posts recently claiming there are busses to Epcot from the monorail resorts. They were so convincing that it made me wonder if there was a change. However, that is not the case. I have taken picture of the GF and Polynesian bus stops showing there isnt bus service to Epcot.
8.Regarding the previous point, the CR doesnt indicate what busses service the resort bus stop. The signs at the bus stop just say Bus Stop. So, you COULD be waiting for a bus to Epcot (or even MK for that matter) and not realize one wont be coming.
9.We ended up driving all around outside the boundary of WDW looking for our Retirement Home
. Looks like there is some nice land for sale on Lake Hancock Rd. (right next to the cattle ranch(s) and even Reams Rd. had some nice developments. The houses on the north side of Lake Mabel are across the lake from WDW property (Osprey Ridge Golf Course). At least it looks that way on the map. Just being able to say I can wake up and swim to WDW priceless.
Anyway, thats my transportation trip report for this year.
