Transportation Orlando to Tampa

We are planning a trip next April 2002. To save dollars, the trip is not done as a package, flights are not direct, and most challenging is that while we land in Orlando (yahoo) we return out of Tampa. Now this would not be a problem except that we really didn't want to rent a car "at all". We are staying on site at ASMo for first 7 days of vacation, next 3 at Delta Orlando (doing the Universal thing and seeing the "other side"), and to be close to the Tampa airport for our 7am flight our last night is at Doubletree Tampa Airport hotel (which offers shuttle to the airport.)

Our challenge is the best way to transfer from one place to the other. From the Orlando airport to ASMo won't be a problem, we are considering Tiffany Town Car. or Your Ride. It's the trip from ASMo to Delta Orlando, and most challenging from the Delta Orlando to Doubletree in Tampa that we need advice about. HELP

Anybody who can offer any insite or suggestions or two cents worth .... please please share your thoughts.

We are thinking we may be forced to rent a car to get from Orlando to Tampa but want to compare with other options that anyone knows about.

Thanks ..... :)

Why don't you want to rent a car??? I'm thinking cab fare from ASmo to Delta Orlando would be at least $20. Then, a cab or limo to Tampa (1 1/2 hours) would be OUTRAGEOUS! A rental car would be $35/day, less if you rent for a few days with a discount code. You'll end up paying 3-5 times as much if you don't rent a car. I'm just not sure it's possible unless you know someone in the area who could drive you....

Hey, you could always walk....:D

Hi Holly,

We feel the car is a hassle (though for this trip, the alternative is looking like it would be more of a hassle.) You not only have the initial rental cost, then you have to add the highway tax, then of course there's gas, and finally the pain of driving in parts unknown (sort of.) Plus, I drive everyday to work, it's kinda nice to let someone else do the driving.

The two other times I've been there I've had a car so if need be it's not out of the question to do so again. The first trip we drove from Kissimee to Clearwater so the driving isn't a threat. The more recent trip, however, we found the car was "totally" unecessary staying onsite, so we are not even considering having one during the week we are at ASMo. The freedom of alternative transportation was "wonderful". This may not be for everyone, but it was a highlight of our vacation (gotta love Disney transportation!!) The car literally sat in the parking lot except for a trip to Sea World, and to and from the airport.

Of course this vacation is a little different and a car would get more use, so it's appearing that a car will be an asset during the latter part of the vacation. We priced one with the travel agent for four days (quick estimate and don't recall which company) and it was going to cost $244 (Canadian $ tax incl). Seems a bit outrageous to me and that is not even counting the highway tax that gets added when you pick up the car. However, if it's going to be more of a hassle without one, and the cost ends up being almost the same (or more), we'll certainly rethink our motives and get a car for those last days.

I guess we may be hoping for a miracle solution. It could happen right ???? :jester:

... oh yeah ... as for walking ... believe me if we thought we could do it we'd certainly be game , but I think the luggage would get pretty heavy after about 50 feet. :D

$244 CD with tax included is not a bad price for a rental for a week. Last year CO paid for a cab for DH and I from TPA to MCO after they screwed up our plane tickets royally. It was paid for with a voucher, but the cab driver told us it would be about a $100 fare. We gave him a tip out of our pocket. (And had him drop us at WDW rather than the airport, no sense usbacktracking, and we weren't going to tell that he didn't take us all the way to where he was being paid to go. Saved him about 40 miles, got us a little more sleep--it was 2:00am by this time!)
