Does anyone know the best (and cheapest) way to get from Port Canaveral to USF? I'm planning to stay after a cruise, and I want to go to USF immediately after the cruise for a few days, and then on to WDW.

Private transfer something like. FL Tours.

Rental car will be expensive and picked up and then have high parking fees at USF, car parks at USF are a long way from the parks but drop off is near the entrance.

I would image rental car or private transportation would be your options.

A one-way car rental from Cape Canaveral (or from the port, if the rental company offices have opened) doesn't have to be an expensive option. Look for a return location that's close to Universal or your hotel.

FL Tours Pick up PC direct to USF drop off at door, $128.

Rental car, shuttle to pick up, drive to USF either park in high rise parking lots are walk or tram in or drop off off site, $ 138 one day intermediate car, basic insurances, plus tolls plus car parking fee plus petrol charge.

Are you staying at a Universal property onsite or one that provides transport to the parks? If not, you may want a rental car. If you only need transport from port to hotel, a car service may be the most convenient, if not the cheapest option.

A towncar would certainly be the most efficient way to get to Universal, but the OP will probably want to go to a hotel first to drop off luggage. Car rental rates vary a great deal depending on the date, company, and discounts available. For what date and company was your $138 quote?

I checked rates for Saturday, Oct. 11 with Hertz in Cape Canaveral with drop-off at Universal's Cabana Bay Resort 24 hours later. Using the DIS discount code (2034198) - an intermediate car is $71.13 including taxes, plus tolls and gas. I have used Budget and Avis for one-way rentals, but I didn't check their rates.

I should have given more info in my original post. I am staying at Cabana Bay, so I don't think I need my own transportation, dcassetta. I'd never considered a rental car. NancyIL...have you done the drive before? Is it relatively straightforward? I'll be needing the car on December 7th. Also, thanks for the tip about the DIS discount code. Thanks for all the great info, everyone.

I have driven between the port and WDW, but not to Universal. To get to Universal - it's a straight shot down 528 (the Beachline) from the port to I-4, then north to Universal. Hertz should have a free shuttle from the cruise terminal to their office near by, and as I learned when checking Hertz locations in Orlando - there's one at Cabana Bay for the drop off.

The rate for an intermediate car is still $71.13 on Dec 7th. If you qualify for other discounts (AAA, etc.) - play around with those discount codes to see if you can lower the rate.

Awesome info, NancyIL. I'll look into rental cars and see what I can find. Thanks again for all the help! The folks here on the DIS Boards are truly awesome.

Just made a reservation of a full size from Hertz on Cape Cañaveral for 2 days returning at Hard Rock Hotel in universal for 75 dollars with disboards discount code.

When you say 2 days - do you mean 48 hours, or pick-up one day and return the next day (up to 24 hours later)?

I've done some research. It looks like I found what you found, NancyIL. Around $72. Am I correct that I would be picking up the car at Cape Canaveral on Astronaut Blvd?

That's the location, and there should be a Hertz shuttle that will pick you up outside the cruise terminal and take you there. I also suggest checking Budget and Avis in Cape Canaveral.

Thanks for confirming, NancyIL. I'll check out the other two companies, as well. Are there DIS discount codes for them as well? (Please point me to the correct thread on the boards, if there is one.)

The DIS used to have a discount code for Budget, but it looks like their affiliation is now with Hertz: http://www.wdwinfo.com/discounts/discounts-transportation.htm#rental

MouseSaver's has a helpful page with various discount codes for car rental companies: http://www.mousesavers.com/transportation-for-disney-vacations/rental-car-discounts/

Again, awesome info NamcyIL. thanks for helping.i wish that I could nominate you for an award or something.
