Back in the Day, the trams would still meet you in the parking lot of the parks, however when you disembarked you were given a receipt where you can mark your parking place for later reference. Now, we just have to rely on our kids to remember it for us.
In 1993, if you were staying outside the WDW property, you could still use the monorail system, most of the bus system and some of the boat system. Back then if you parked at one park to start the day, you needed to end up back there before the close of that park to retrieve your car.
On the monorail system, non resort guests could not board the resort monorail without hotel guest identification.
The only type of transportation between the Magic Kingdom and Disney MGM or Epcot and MGM was by car or bus.
If you were a guest at a WDW owned resort, if you stayed at a resort hotel offering monorail service, the bus service was limited, meaning that the TTC was used to transfer for most other Disney locations. If you were staying at an Epcot resort you could walk or commute via tram to te International Gateway entrance of Epcot Center. Although there was bus service from the MK resorts to Disney MGM, there was not from Epcot resorts to Disney MGM, so you had to take the boat, which was extremely slow moving.
The Bus Service: All of the WDW buses had a color coded pennant painted on the sides of the rear of the bus. Each pennant is identified on a bus route chart that gives you all locations a particular bus servce. The bus route chart was given to the guest at check in.
Buses started running at 7:15 am on days when the park's official opening time was 9 am, and ran about every 20 minutes. Buses to Disney-MGM or Epcot delivered you to the entraince of the park. Buses to the Magic Kingdom delivered you to the TTC before 8:15 am (so you would have to transfer to the monorail or ferry), and only directly to the entrance of the MK at 8:15 am or later. To be ther for the real opening time (as opposed to the official opening time), you would have to catch a direct bus to Epcot or Disney MGM between 7:30 and 8 am, then catch a direct bus to the MK between 8 and 8:15 am. If you had to transfer to reach your park of choice, you needed to leave 15-20 minutes earlier. For the return trip in the evening, you needed to get out of the park about 40 minutes to an hour before closing to avoid the rush. Busses then, as now will run up to 2 hours after the parks closed.
The monorail system usually got up and running around 7:30 am when the MK and Epcot opened officially at 9 am. You couldn't get off at the MK entrance until about 8:15 am. If you were a day guest, you wouldn't be allowed on the monorail until 8:15 to 8:30 am at the TTC. If you wanted to board earlier, you would have to take the walkway to the Polynesian and board there.
