Okay, for those of you with children on the spectrum have any of you transitioned from a stroller to a wheelchair? I ask this because on past visits we have rented a stroller for my DS who is on the spectrum. The stroller helped him with his anxiety with the crowds, he could hide pretty much if things were getting to intense for him and he also has asthma which makes it difficult for him to do all of the walking required during a long day in the park. This also aleviated the problem of him just wandering off as he has no safety awareness whatsoever, no matter how long we work with him on this issue. He is now getting to big for a stroller and we were thinking that renting a wheelchair might be the best bet for him. Have any of you done this and did it work out okay for you? Any thought, or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

We transitioned out of a stroller sized for children up to 100 lbs. into an adult travel chair when my DS, now age 16, was 13. In August, the wheel broke off the travel chair half way through our trip and I had to rent a wheelchair at the parks for the rest of our trip. Just trying to get into the parks without a chair in order to get the wheelchair was sometimes a trial. My DS would run way ahead of us without fear of traffic, run to a character he saw, get to the wheelchair rental and taking a chair before we got there, etc. He really needs to ride so he can get the most out of the vacation experience. I would highly recommend it if your child has issues. It also gives me good exercize! :cool2:

Please PM me. I still have the stroller up to 100 lbs. (McClaren) if it would work for you. It is in good condition. Folds up like an umbrella stroller only larger. :cool2:
