Transferring points

I was on the phone with MS today and inquiring about the 1 in or 1 out rule on whether it is per use year ir calendar year. The CM i was speaking to said that transfers had to be the same use year. So someone cannot transfer their 2008 points into my 2009 use year. This does not sound correct to me.
So if I have a February use year and someone with a june use year wanted to tranfser their 2008 points into my account in February, they would not be able to do so.
I have already transferred points in my 2008 use year. But February would begin my 2009 use year.
Does this sound right? I am mostly asking about the same year issue.

It does sound correct.....you see if someone were able to transfer in 08 points into their 09 account that would end up giving that person an extra year to bank these points. If you need points into you 09 account you will need to find someone willing to transfer their 09 points. Hope this answers your ?????

Hmmm....I seem to remember a thread couple weeks back about 2 members who want to arrange a points transfer with each member being in a different Use Year....

I think an issue with this is if you want to bank the incoming transferred points which you may do BUT in scenario you mention ~technically~ that member transferring to you would have to bank their June UY points by January 31 & once banked those 2008 UY points can then no longer be transferred.

BUT if they transferred those 2008 UY points to you on February 1 MS may still allow the points to be banked ( there have been times when MS has allowed transferred points to be banked even though they were beyond their banking deadline when transferred over to the receiving member ).

My understanding (I may be wrong) is that it is one transfer either in or out per the specific Use Year that each individual member is currently in so if you want the transfer into your 2009 UY you don't necessarily need to find someone with 2009 Use Year points; ie if someone with June UY has their CURRENT 2008 Use Year points available and have not done a transfer in or out during their 2008 UY then they may transfer those 2008 pts into your 2009 Use Year in February which is the start of your new UY when you once again have your transfer option available.

It can't hurt to give MS a call and ask again

the bottom line is this- any transfered points will retain their original UY and resort (April 08 BWV will remain April 09 BWV points when transfered). And they can be banked and borrowed just like any other set of points.

I was told last week that transferred points couldn’t be borrowed. Also that future use years cannot be transferred (although I am still waiting for the written confirmation of the rules which they promised) although there is anecdotal information that this has happened in the past.
