Transferring points questions.

Hi everyone. I hope I am post this in the right forum...it seemed like it had to do with operations- but please move it if not.

Ok Here is the situation We have ** points at **. We are planning a trip next Oct 2010. We have an Oct use year. We have used 2009 points so we will be getting our points Oct 2009 (right?). Anyway I need to book a 2 bedroon amd a studio because my mom,bro and inlaws are joining us so I need more points. First can I borrow these from 2011?

If we choose not to borrow how do we go about buying and transferring (I mean I have bought DVC points before I was member so I know how that works but how does the whole transferring into account work?) I assume it has to be someone frome ** so I can make ressies at the 11 month mark? Or does that not apply?

Also I may want to try to get BW at 7 month does that change anything if we used transferred points?

First, some details had to be edited out of your post so as not to construe this as seeking transfer points.

With the details left, it seems that you used your 2009 already, so they must have been borrowed last year? Had you not used 2009, then in October 2009 you would have received your next allotment. If that is the case, your next point allotment won't show up till October 2010. You can borrow those to make your reservation at the 11 month window. You can seek a transfer of the remaining number of points that you will need, making sure to find points from the same resort so you can make your ressie at that time.

It's hard to answer your questions, because it isn't clear what points you have used - "used 2009 points" "getting our points Oct 2009".

Since you have an October use year:

The points in your 2008 use year were for trips between 10/1/2008 and 9/30/2009.

The points in your 2009 use year are for trips between 10/1/2009 and 9/30/2010.

The points in your 2010 use year are for trips between 10/1/2010 and 9/30/2011.

The points in your 2011 use year are for trips between 10/1/2011 and 9/30/2012.

You want to take a big trip in October, 2010. That trip falls within your 2010 use year. (Match the vacation dates to your use year). So for that vacation, you can use

1. The points in your October 2010 use year.
2. Any points that you bank from your 2009 use year.
3. Points that you borrow from your 2011 use year.

You find a member who has points from your home resort to transfer. If you want to book at the 11 month window, the transferred points must be from your home resort.

You negotiate terms. Most transfers seem to involve 50% of the payment made prior to the transfer and the rest right after the transfer is completed. But it is negotiable. Price and terms do vary between members. Keep in mind that transfers are NOT reversible and that in the event of a dispute, Disney/DVC will not get involved. You and the other party are on your own to resolve any dispute that may arise. That's part of the reason your documents state that members should not receive compensation for transferring points.

Once you have an agreement, the other party calls MS and arranges the transfer. Some do this on a 3-way call.

Done. The points are in your account and belong to you.

If you decide to use the DIS DVC Rent/Trade Board, please be sure to read all of the Sticky Threads at the top of the Board (esp the one on how to title your request) before you post.

At 7 months, the transferred points are good to book any resort, subject to availability, of course.

Thanks so much for all your help guys...Carol yes you are reight I did borrow points so I guess I will not get my next set untill 2010. That's what I origanlly though but I keep getting confused

I love my DVC but I really need to learn about it so I understand it all! Thanks again.
