Transferring Points question?

Friends and us are going in April 06. They need 410 points - they currently have 200 and want me to transfer 210 into their account (2 bedroom at BWV).

However, I am borrowing from 2006 - so I cannot transfer.

So, I can either:
  • Transfer his points into my BWV contract and I make the ressies
  • He rents from me and I make the first or second half of his ressie

Am I correct? Are these the only options?

If you have another trip planned between now and the begining of your 2006 use year, you can also call MS and have them use the "borrowed" 2006 points for that trip, freeing up some 2005 points that can be transfered to your friend. A little tricky sounding, but not really all that complicated.

I asked about that, but because it's a heavy week, there is a chance that I could lose it. (???)

Banked or borrowed points cannot be transferred, however, (and this is the big difference), transferred points can be banked or borrowed.

Just transfer some of your 2006 Use Year points into his 2006 Use Year. Then he can borrow the points into his 2005 Use Year and make the reservation.

That's probably your best option.

I am assuming that both of these individual's home resort is BWV or if they have different home resorts then they are not attempting to take advantage of the 11 month reservation window, because, I didn't think you could transfer points from one home resort account (say SSR) into a different home resort account (like BWV) and then use them as if they were all from the same home resort account (BWV) to take advantage of the 11 month ressie window.

Transferred points are supposed to retain their original home resort, but becasue of the way the computer system tracks points, that doesn't always happen. So it's entirely possible that someone could use the glitch to get around the booking rules. That's why I wish DVC would get that problem fixed.

Anyway FWIW, I've read lots of Laurajean1014's posts and I don't believe she would ever knowingly circumvent those rules.

Best wishes -

Friends own at SSR with a September Use Year. I own at OKW and BWV and have a Use Year of October. HOwever, I have 321 points coming to me in October, but 247 is being used for the same trip (Easter - April 2006) as friends want to book.

I can cancel my trip; place his and then with my borrowed points, make my ressies again.

Or, he can transfer into my BWV contract (on Sept. 1 or so) and I can book his trip, immediately.
