Can someone explain to me how points are transferred? I have rented points out in the past but noticed some people are asking to have points transferred. How is this done?:confused3

Fairly simple. One member calls MS and asks that points be transferred to another member. It's done almost instantly.

If your quesiton is about how to get paid, then I'd suggest paypal and 100% payment up front before the transfer is done.

So both have to be members but do they have to belong to the same resort?

both have to be members, yes.

both do NOT have to have the same home resort, no.

(if you own BLT pts and transfer pts in from SSR, the SSR pts retain their home resort and can only be used to book SSR at 11 months. at 7 months, the SSR pts can be used to book BLT.)

you may only complete one transfer per year, either in or out but not both.

your DVC contract prohibits accepting compensation (money) in exchange for transferring pts, so if you say or imply anything about money changing hands to MS, the resultant lecture is your own fault.

most transfers are done by the transferror calling MS and giving MS their account info and then bringing in the other member into the 3-way conference call.

once the pts are gone, they are gone. you won't be able to get them back. (on the bright side, you won't be responsible for any reservations made with those pts once you have transferred them out.)

also, banked or borrowed pts may not be transferred out. (but pts that have been transferred in may be banked.)

(naturally, banked or borrowed pts may still be used to book a reservation that can be rented out.)

Can only current uy points be transferred?
If I have an april uy, when can you transfer the points that come available on april 1st? (2011)

Do the points transferred in retain their use year or are they now in my use year?

Only current UY points can be transferred. They retain their original resort preference for reservations. They can be banked under normal rules by the new owner. :surfweb:

You should be able to transfer your 2011 points into another member's 2011 Use Year. For most , that could be done right now. Members with October and December Use Years are currently still in their 2009 Use Year and could only transfer/accept 2009 and 2010 points. You can transfer points from your current Use Year and points current for the next Use Year. No one can transfer 2012 points at this time and those still in their 2009 Use Year cannot transfer 2011 points yet.

transferred pts retain their home resort identity and their UY.

if you transfer in june 2010 pts, they will expire on may 31, 2011 if you don't bank them.

Thank you for this, you have also answered most of my questions but I would still like to know how the 3-way conference call works. I've never done one of these before and, as I live in England, I would have to factor in the time difference when I call.

If I ring MS to transfer points do they arrange a 3-way conference call? Do I have to arrange for the buyer to ring at the same time as me or do MS ring them?:confused3

I was going to use my points for a cruise next year but as they are not taking bookings now this seems like a good solution.

Remember one key point as noted by another poster. You can only make one transfer in or out per use year. So if you have a large block of points you can not use in a year, be careful about how small a transfer you are willing to make to another member as that will b the only transfer you will be able to make. Currently I have * points that I need to transfer - I will probably oblt accept a transfer of * points or more since I will then still need to rent * points. In my case the fewer points I transfer the more points I have to rent if I choose not to bank. We're in that stage where the kids have all left but no grand kids yet - can't wait!
