Transfering Points "Ghosting"

Hi there,

Please could you help me with this tricky question. When a friend of mine transfers points to my account do these points take on my home resort 11 month usage. The reason for this is that we are all going on vacation together next Oct to VWL, his ownership is at SSR, and if I book the rooms at my home resort, VWL this would guarantee the same resort. All points would be 2006 points.

Any ideas?

While transferred points have always been 'supposed' to maintain their original home resort and use year status, in the past they often did not, and took on the receipiant's Home Resort and UY. Thus if you had SSR transferred into your VWL points you could use them as VWL points for 11 month booking advantage.

This has been a major loophole within the DVC system.

However, From the DVC Compliance Department, I have been personally told that this was a high priority software fix for MS, and it would be corrected before the end of this year. Thus with the three recent MS software upgrades, I believe that your transferred points will now maintain their original home resort and UY, prventing you from booking at VWL until the 7 month window.

As I have no transfers left for UY 2006 & 2007, I can not yet personally confirm this software fix.

Any recent transferees care to comment?

About 2 weeks ago, I was going to transfer SSR points into one of my BWV contracts (2 different membership numbers) in order to book a BWV 1 BR at 11 months out. MS told me that the transferred points would remain SSR points......Needless to say, I didn't complete the transfer.

I really hope this has been fixed. While most people might have innocently used it without being aware of the fact that they were gaming the system, I'm sure that there were others who were doing it for the express purpose of changing the nature of the transferred points.

Can anyone else confirm that the "point morphing" loophole seems to be closed?

I sure hope its been fixed. I'd hate not getting my rooms at 11 months because other are using this loophole with diff home pts :goodvibes

Until we get at least a couple of reports of people that actually completed the transfer and their account of where the points ended up, we won't know. That means completing the transfer then on a separate call, try to use the points and see what one is then told. MS has almost always quoted the rules on transfers in the past including at times when we knew they were incorrect in the actual function of the system. So the fact that several people were told what would be after transfer, means absolutely nothing IMO. My guess is nothing has changed and this is simply wishful thinking though I do hope they correct it at some point.

I agree with Dean. The point morphing won't be fixed until someone tries and can't make it work. I won't believe they've fixed anything until I see someone fail.

Disney is notorious for having tons of rules they choose not to enforce, but they're always able to quote the rule to you. Look at occupancy, smoking, pool-hopping, line-cutting, dining plan cheating, etc, etc, etc. They know if they make and state a rule, most people will abide by it.

There will be a small minority who say, "Hey...if you don't stop me, you're not serious and I'm going to do it anyway." But those people are too few to matter, so Disney lets them go. They just take their money and let them do whatever they want...and who's to say that's not smart business on Disney's part?
