If I have a picture that is a Mickey Head in the middle, then Merry on top and Christmas under it. Do I need to cut the words out separately? Will they transfer clear or will there be a white space in between head and words? Thanks for your help
It depends on which kind of transfer paper you use.
Light transfer paper is a clear sheet. What this means is that anything that is not 'printed' on the transfer WILL be clear. So if you have any white in your design, or lack of color, it WILL be clear because white is not printed by a printer.
If there are no white areas, or anything lacking color, then you could put the design on any colored shirt with a light transfer. If there is white (or lack of color) in the design and you put it on a white shirt, it will be fine. If you put the same on let's say a red shirt, then all white areas of your design will be red (or the shirt color)
If you use a dark transfer, then the sheet itself is white. What that means is that anything white (or lack of color) WILL be white. Picture printing your design on a standard sheet of paper. That is what it will look like with a dark transfer. So any white that you do not want to show on your shirt would need to be trimmed off. This would be tedious if you are talking about tiny text. If you have tiny text, your best bet would be too incorporate your design in a standard easy to cut out shape, square, circle, etc.
I hope this helps - if you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask. We were all new to this once!
