Transfer Question

I have a month removed UY...I want to try to do a transfer for a date removed vacation to get the 11 month booking advantage.

What do I need to look for when trying to find a transfer wrt their points and UY etc and what year do I need to transfer in??

ps. Mods - I left out resorts hoping that would make it generic enough!! I've read through several of the generic transfer threads and still cant figure out..

Transferred points retain their resort and use year, so you will need to keep that in mind as you look for an owner to transfer. You can review the threads over on the DVC Rent/Trade Board and post to them when you find something suitable.

P.S. as you know, we do not allow "seeking" transfer nor rental posts here on the DIS, so no details are allowed on Ops, Planning nor Mouse, just general questions. (no resort name, dates, use year, etc.)

To receive points, it really doesn't matter what use year you have, although it would make things a lot easier to understand if you just looked for someone who had your same use year.

Perhaps an example will help you.

Let's say you want to vacation in September of 2012.

Make yourself a chart of all the possible use years and figure out which use year contains your September 2012 vacation.

If the other person has a February use year, you want points from his/her 2012 use year (2/1/2012 - 1/31/2013), because a September 2012 vacation falls within the February 2012 use year.

Same thing will be true for March, April, June, August and September use years. You want points from the other person's 2012 use year.

If the person transferring you points has an October or December use year, you will need to get 2011 points, because a September vacation would fall within the October 2011 use year (10/1/2011 - 9/30/2012) and the December 2011 use year (12/1/2011 - 11/30/2012).

Keep in mind that if you want to make a reservation at the 11 month window, you need to get the points for your home resort. Otherwise, you can't reserve until the 7 month window.

Before you commit with $$, call MS and verify that the points you will be getting will work for what you want to do.

Okay - I am trying to do this with the chart like suggested - it helps a little...

I am trying to get points at a different resort than what I own because I want the 11 month advantage - that will be okay right? (the use of 'your home resort' above is what I'm trying to clarify...if I cant get the 11 month with these points that I'd be lookign to transfer, there is no points as I have enough of my own points for the reservation otherwise).

Since I cant use my real dates - can we see if I've got this from a hypothetical situation using dates in the past!!

My use year - does this even matter??

Transfer needs to occur by Sept/Oct 2009.

Transfer of future years points is allowed?? Meaning I'd be looking for someones Feb, March, April, June, Aug, Sept 2010 years even though we were all still in our 2009 year?

Or do I have to request a transfer from them in their 2009 year and then bank them after I get them as long as its not beyond their banking deadline??

And we would be doing the transfer in 2009, would it count against the use year of the points (2009 or 2010) or would it count against the use year that the transfer occurred?

Sorry- I have read threads for months now and still cant figure out all of the nuances and until I figure this out, I cant reply to any threads on the Rent/Trade board!!

Points retain their original resort and use year, so if you want to make a reservation when the 11 month window opens, you'll need to have that resort's points in your account. For example, let's say your home resort is SSR, but you want to make a reservation for BLT. You'll need to receive a transfer of BLT points in order to call for the BLT reservation when the 11 month window opens.

Yes. The points need to be in your account prior to the time you call for the reservation.

.Yes, that will work. You need points that will be valid for the vacation you want to take.

Again, AFAIK, it's the use year of the points that are transferred that matters.

Many of the R/T posters are experienced and very knowledgeable. Reply to a thread offering the home resort you want, tell them when you need the points to be valid and let them help you figure out if it will work. Once you think you have a deal, call MS and ask if points from xx use year will be OK to make the reservation you want.

I know banked or borrowed points can not be transferred to another member, but after a transfer of "clean" points is made can the member who received the points bank and/or borrow those points?

Transferred points may be banked, but not borrowed.
