So if I have a Feb UY, and I transfer points into my account that are from someone else's Mar 2010 UY, does that transfer count against my 2010 UY transfer (the 1 transfer per year that we're allowed)?

I transferred the points in December and the reservations are for March. I'm so confused!:confused3

If you received 2010 UY points, then yes, that counts as your 2010 UY transfer.

If they were transferred into you 2010 Use Year, you have used your one transfer for 2010. You can also have a transfer of 2011 points into your 2011 Use Year. The Use Year month does not matter, it the year itself that determines what the transfer counts against.

So, you can have 1 transfer (in or out) once per calendar year?

If I have points transfered into my account in Dec. I can have more transfered in Jan? (both Transfers would be in my same Dec UY?)

Its not calendar, it is UY. So, if you got 2010 UY points, than that counts as your 2010 UY transfer.

You could accept a transfer in January as well, but they would have to be 2011 UY points. Matter of fact, someone can call and do two transfers in the same day--as long as what you are transferring (in or out) are different UY points, they would allow it.

That's awesome. So, for instance:

I have Apr BLT and another member has Feb BCV.

In Apr 2011, I can three-way call MS (w/the other member) and Xfer my 2011 BLT points into his/her account and at the same time, they can Xfer their 2012 BCV into my account (not available, not even to borrow, till Feb, 2012)

Is that scenario possible?

I belive that you are allowed to transfer the current UY points as well as the next UY's points. So, as long as the BCV owner has entered their 2011 UY, they can transfer their 2012 UY points and it would count as their 2012 UY transfer.

And yes, you could do what you suggest--transfer your 2011 BLT points to them and they transfer their 2012 BCV UY points to you.

Just remember, though, that points retain not only home resort, but UY as well. Given your scenerio, with a Feb UY for the BCV points, those would only be good for travel from February 1st, 2012 through January 31st, 2013. Once you had the points, you could bank them, but I think you have to wait not at least February 1st, 2012 (but not sure if I am correct on this point).

Just curious, but is your reasoning for doing this to take advantage of the 11 month booking window? I know BCV is tough to get into at the 7 month mark. Unless you had someone already in mind to trade with, how would you go about finding the trade?

Yes. But the other main reason for doing it that way is so that two members can have the 11-month advantage at each other's home resort and those points belong to you, so you can bank them and no one has to be worried about compensation (whether Disney allows it or not.)

I would imagine you could post on the Rent/Trade boards.

I considered the Rent/Trade boards and wondered how the Mods would see it. On one hand a swap is a trade. On the other hand it is also a solicitation. Have you heard/seen anyone else do this on the board?

I've contemplated different home resort transfer trades from time to time as well. Particularly with my VGC contracts; I travel more often to WDW than DL and like to book @ 11 months. It might be nice to trade off some VGC points for WDW ones (in a different Use Year) from time to time rather than try and use the VGC ones @ 7 months... [I only plan to go to DL once every 2 or 3 years {bank & borrow, but sometimes I'll end up with points that I don't plan to use in CA} but wanted to have the 11 month window for the Grand!]

Rules are 1 transfer per contract use year. So a Dec 2010 used up your one transfer for the period of 2/1/2010 through 1/31/11 (your 2010 contract UY).

It is done by your contract use year, which if you are transfering out is always you current year points or you next years points (as long as they have not been borrowed which can not be transfered). If you are transfering in it can be any points that a member can tranfer out. So you could transfer in during your 2010 use year 2009, 2010,or 2011 points (or even a combination of done in 1 transaction from a single member. It would only count against you 2010 1 transfer allocation.

There has been lots of confusion at MS apout this and it has been done incorrectly and incorrect information has been give as often as the correct rules. I took the time to review this all with QA to get the real rules (which even a lot of the supervisiors do not understand since what they are supplied in writing is very vauge).

Transfers are made using our Rent/Trade Board all the time. Just use "Transfer Wanted" as the title of the thread.

Completely different than what I was told so we really should push to have something more specific put in to writing so it is clear to members. What you describe is certainly more than one transfer of points.

I would love to hear if there is anyone who has actually done this and had it count.

So I am looking into getting some Resort Name points transferred into my account. I want to go to Resort Name in December 2012, so am looking at the 2012 points (Aug UY). I have a few questions, and would appreciate any advice!

1. Does this mean that we cannot do the transfer until the Resort Name owner is in the 2011 Aug UY (August 1)? It sounds like we will have to wait until August to make the call?

2. Once this happens, since the points retain the original resort and UY, I should have no problem booking Resort Name at the 11-month window, does that sound right?

3. Also, I am buying a resale Resort Namecontract right now with a June UY, and we already have a BCV contract with another UY. Would we just ask MS to put the transfer into the Resort Name contract?

4. This would count toward my one transfer for UY 2012 into that Resort Namecontract?

Having never done a transfer before, this is all new to me (can you tell?) :upsidedow. Thank you!

Hi, I am just bumping this to see if anyone can help me with my transfer questions above. Thank you :)!

If you want Aug UY 2012 points for travel in Dec 2012, yes, you would have to wait until the Aug 2011 UY starts to get those points.

2. Once this happens, since the points retain the original resort and UY, I should have no problem booking Resort Name at the 11-month window, does that sound right?

Correct. A Dec 2012 trip can be booked in Jan 2012. As long as you have the transfer of points prior to that date, you can use the 11 month window. Since Jan 2012 is part of an Aug 2011 UY, there won't be a problem getting the points into your account before than.

3. Also, I am buying a resale Resort Namecontract right now with a June UY, and we already have a BCV contract with another UY. Would we just ask MS to put the transfer into the Resort Name contract?

Since you will have two different UY's, you will have two different memberships. When the owner who tranfers you the points, you would tell them which one of those memberships you want to receive the transfer. MS will then put them there. They will not show up online so you won't be able to see them.

4. This would count toward my one transfer for UY 2012 into that Resort Namecontract?

Yes, whatever membership gets the transfer, that will be your 2012 UY transfer for that account.

Just remember, you don't have to secure Aug UY points, just because it might be one of your UY's.

When securing a transfer, you only need to make sure that the points are valid for the time you want to use them. With a Dec 2012 trip, you can also get 2011 UY points and then bank them once you get them. This would then make them part of the 2012 UY.

Just suggesting to give you some flexibility when you are ready to look for points. So, pretty much any UY would work--of course, the closer the UY is to your travel, the more time you would have to use up the points in case of a cancellation. IMO, I wouldn't probably go with anything earlier than June UY.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply! I was looking at 2012 UY points since those would provide me with the most flexibility for using or banking. If I have 2011 UY points transferred in, then I would have to bank them to use them, and would only have that year to use them or lose them.

I think I understand how it can work. Thank you :)!

I do agree that getting the 2012 Uy points give you the flexibility to still bank them if you have to cancel that 2012 trip and it is probably a great idea to strive for that.

Good luck!

I thought that transfered points could not be banked.
