I asked this before and just figured out I posted on the wrong board, so will try again!

How does it work, to transfer points from one member to another? I read somewhere that money is not to be exchanged?? :confused3 Obviously this isn't the way it works. IF I am a member and need more points for a trip, the only way to get more is to get some from another member right?

Disney doesn't really want to know about monies being made on transferred points. But if you do need more points you will have to buy/rent them. So on the rent/trade board find a member that has points to transfer...contact them to get a price...you will more than likely pay anywhere from $9 to $12 per point. They will ask for a check, money order, or even a paypal payment before they call MS to transfer from their account # to yours. Also members can only transfer current UY points.....If the trip falls through you would be able to bank the points you just received.
Hope this helps....

Transferred points are safe? Meaning, that once they have been transferred to your account, they are yours and can't be taken back from the original owner? And does the UY of those points stay the same as the OOwner, or do they work with your own UY?

I'd be interested in the answer to that last question too.
I have rented points before and taken 1/2 the payment upfront and then made the ressie, provided the confirm # to the renter and than collected the balance due me, do transfer work the same, or is it usually pay in full THEN receive the points? It's definitely a "trusting" kind of transaction.

I always get my money up front, then transfer (didn't once and got burned - thank goodness it was just one point).

I keep my emails of prior transfers in case anyone wants a reference. But it is a trusting sort of thing.

Transferred points are safe...once they are in your account they can not be taken back. The UY does stay the same as the original owners contract and whatever resort they may be a owner of.

Tranferring works different.....the owners always have the control over points in a rental situation. In a transfer generally all the money is paid up front and then the transfer happens. Other owners may have different policies but once you make a transfer there is no going back...

Wow! I must have been lucky with the Gentleman I bought points from...he requested payment only AFTER the points were in my account & I verified same from DVC.

I realize it's a matter of trust both ways....but, if a CC & PayPal are used, I assume you have the right to dispute the charge if there's a problem.

Good luck.

I have a question about this also. If the points keep their original home resort this means at the 11 month window you can only use them to book at that resort? What about at 7 months? Can you use them anywhere then or still only at their home resort?

I talked to several different CM's @ DVC before I completed my recent transfer.

After speaking to 3 different CM's, the majority opinion (1 differed) was that the UY of the transferred points had to match my own, in order to use the transferred points in one of my contracts & obtain 11 month priority...even though I would be using the points after they were banked into the next year.

They didn't seem to care what resort they came from...just that the UY matched.

As for utilizing points from another resort & UY, I was cautioned that this would take a manual pull (and could take several days depending on the time of year) & could possibly prevent us from booking as early as possible with that resort's 11 month window.

Most posters have reported that it doesn't matter what UY you purchase, especially if you're not using the 11 month window & will bank the points. Perhaps DVC was blowing smoke???? Doc is the expert...

I asked this under a new thread

If I buy at SSR and add on say 100 pts at BWV If I get the same U/Y can I transfer my 150 points to bwv and make a ressie using all those or do I have to wait the 7 month window still? I hope this make sense ? I know I can make a ressie with my 100 points of BWV is that it then add on , maybe , with my other points from SSR . To make a short question long how does adding on small amounts help people out ?

Thank you for your time and help
