We are still deciding whether to leave on Thanksgiving day or Black Friday. I am wondering if anyone had any insite about I-95 through southern SC and through GA on Thanksgiving day? Just wondering if I am setting myself up for hours and hours of headaches?
We will be traveling from NC to FL which we do several times a year, but never on or around a holiday.

Traveled back from WDW Sunday after Thanksgiving...was a TOTAL NIGHTMARE! Traffic backed up for hours and was involved in a 5 car pile up....NOT FUN!!:scared1:

Thanksgiving Day itself should be pretty quiet. Everyone is usually where they are supposed to be to spend the holiday and aren't on the highway. There is huge car show at Daytona, however, that starts on Thanksgiving Day.

Thanks for that advice. I didn't know about the car show. If we left on Thanksgiving we would stay in Savannah for the night and then continue to WDW on Friday. If we leave on Friday we will still stay one night in Savannah on the way, so we would arrive on Saturday.

I can't remember which parts of I-95 were 2 lanes in South Carolina and Georgia, but where it was, it was slower. But you should see less truck traffic which was the source of much of the slow driving. On the other hand, lots of family drivers out for short trips and they won't be helpful at keeping traffic moving fast either.
