Trading ressies between members

We are new to DVC and have made reservations at VWL for 5 nights 10-28 thru 11-2, 1 two bedroom and 1 studio. After looking at the points we thought that we may try and switch to OKW to save enough points for another weeks stay. Do members ever make reservations at their home resort at the 11 month window and then trade with someone else who has made a reservation at their home resort? Would it be better to transfer the points between members? Do transfered points retain their home resort reservation privliges? Or am I making too much out of this, and should just wait until I can make the switch at the 7 month window.
I have read that OKW is the easiest to get into at 7 months.
