Trading pins

That's what we did too. A couple weeks ago we bought eight 8 packs of Energizer batteries at Walgreens for $3.99 and each pack included a Disney Pin to trade.

And although I have no problem with people getting cheap pins to be traded with CMs please refrain from trading sedesma/spain pins. They are made out of plastic and do not have disney copyright on the back of it. According to disney rule CMs are NOT supposed to accept them for trade.

This is not entirely true. They are not made out of plastic. Plastic pins and large thin metal buttons (the ones that are usually given out) are NOT tradable.

Many pin collectors have Sedesma pins in their collections. I have several and I have a LOT of pins. Sedesma and Pro Pins have some unique designs of many characters and some obscure characters. They ARE ©Disney as are Pro Pins. The quality of the pin is not that of a USA Disney Park or DS pin, but they are tradeable at the park. They are more of a heavy metal with black outlines but they are ©Disney. Pro-Pins and Sedesma have a Disney license as does an Italian company (not sure if they are still in business) called Bertoni. Disney Bertoni pins are highly sought after by collectors.

Don't confuse these pin companies with FANTASY or a BOOTLEG Pins.

**Fantasy pins are pins that individuals have made that may feature a suttle likeness of Disney character and the pins are NOT sanctioned by Disney.

See the link below for an example of a Fantasy pin

As you can see, it's supposed to be Tinker Bell but it could be another fairy

**Bootleg pins are pins that are made to look very close to a ©Disney Pin.
See this link for an example of a Bootleg Pin.

Definetly Tinker Bell and NOT made by Disney.

Neither one of these pins are tradeable at the parks.

Some of the early Euro Disney pins were not copyrighted. I have a few, because they are characters that I collect. I will only trade them with other traders, not with CM's even though they are legitimate Disney pins.

There has been an on going discussion on the Collector's Board about Sedesma Pins. It's iinteresting and informative reading including pin traders who have recently been to the parks and their experiences with Sedesma Pins.

There are many sellers on ebay who have trading pins that they are selling in lots for $3.00 or less a pin. How can they do this for pins that cost them anywhere from $6-$15??? They have reached a plateau in collecting and aren't trading as much any more. Others are downsizing their collection. Many fellow collectors are selling $10 pins for $3 that are still in the original plastic.

Hope this helps!

I guess I should clarify my post... :)
Some of the really cheap spain/sedesma pins sold in bulk are made out of plastic which are not tradeable.

The pin trading rule specifies "Metal pins which describes disney event, location, character, or icon.".

So as long as your pins follow this rule they are tradeable.

There was an older rule which specified that the pin needed to bear disney copyright to be traded, but I suppose that was changed.

It is stated on mousepinsonline.com that all of the pins are Disney "Propins". What are Propins? They don't look like that same quality pins that I got from Disney. Please let me know.

Well, I've done it now! I've only been to Disney World twice, and have never traded pins, but I bought some from DisneyDirect's big sale, so I could experience this form of entertainment with my granddaughter on our trip in December. After reading this thread, (and being assured that ProPins are definitely tradeable at the parks) I checked out the mousepinsonline web site, and I bought yet more pins for trading.

If you click on their June special tab at the top, you'll find a very interesting account of an experiment in pin trading by the owner of the site. AND, they're offering pins from three of their categories - Jungle Book, 101 Dalmations, and Oliver & Company - for $1.75 each. In addition, for every 10 pins you order, they'll include an additional one free (their choice). S/H on any order up to a certain weight (approximately 50 pins, I think) is $3.85. I ordered 20 pins @ $1.75 each. Counting the S/H and the two free pins I'll get, the final cost of each will be $1.77. I sure hope this turns out to be fun for my granddaughter and me. :p

6/13/05 - Just to clarify. I overlooked a bit of information on the home page of the MousePinsOnline site
For every ten pins you purchase, MousePinsOnline will include with your shipment one extra pin from our ProPins inventory -- Grab Bags and other specials are excluded.
The pins I bought for $1.75 each were part of their June special, and, therefore, not eligible for the bonus pins. I just didn't want to be guilty of posting incorrect information.

Thanks for the tip on mousepins!! :flower: I just ordered some for my Dks!!! The best price I've seen anywhere!! That was a very interesting research project they did!

We got hooked on pin trading on our trip last Sept. It seemed like every CM had great pins to trade and we really enjoyed ourselves. When we returned in Dec, it was cold and the lanyards were hidden by sweaters/jackets and it was more difficult to trade. But here's the thing, it seemed like there were a LOT of propin and sedema pins on the lanyards (which we don't trade for). We actually had SEVERAL CMs say to us when we asked to see their pins "I don't have any good ones" because all they had were "cheaper" pins. Their words not mine - don't yell at me!!! :worried:

Well, for our upcoming trips I purchased a bunch of cloisonne pins from Disneydirect and ebay (I buy individual pins from a single seller and save on shipping). They are VERY nice and well made pins. I bought some lots of 4 off of Disneydirect, so we are definitely trading.

:confused3 Here is my question: for those of you who have gone recently, do the CMs have a nice mix of cloisonne pins (in addition to the propin/sedema pins)? Also, does anyone know when or how often the cast lanyards are resupplied?

Oh yeah, I'm not some "big" collector. Our family (DH, DS9, DS4, DM, and I) just like the pins and we frame them when we return home as a souvenior from our trip. :flower:

I'm also not looking to get into a big issue here, I just wanted to ask my questions about restocking the cast lanyards. Thanks for being nice.

Hi nuzmom,
when i was there the end of may i saw a good amt of cloisonne pins on lanyards. I saw some sedesma/spain pins too of course, but i wouldn't say they're a lot.
You will see a good chunk of the pins be starter pins (from starter sets, disney freebies - AAA, Magical Express, etc.). Of course some old disney store pins are there too. If you collect cast lanyard pins, they are there too.

have fun trading!!

ps: Have you heard about Scoop Sanderson from Main Street Gazzette? PM me if you're interested.

I edited my original post, but I also wanted to add this new post in case someone who has already been reading this thread just comes to see what's new.
