I am still in the process of trying to convince DH to purchase DVC. One of his concerns is never going anywhere other than Disney. I know that you can trade points for vacations all around the world... so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing their experience with this? Is it a difficult process to trade the points? What is the time frame you have to book a vacation. Are the resorts similar in quality to Disney? Is it flexible the way DVC is or do you have to book for a week at a time?

Thanks in advance!

You can use your points any way you like. If you have the points to do it, you could rent a Grand Villa for 12 in July or two studios in December. You just have to make your reservation timely so everything you want isn't already booked.

That said, DVC is rather expensive for trading out. And you need to deposit your points with MS, pay the search fee and wait for something to come up . You don't just say 'I want X resort, Y week" You usually give several choices and locations and hope for the best.

Buy fewer points, and then get another timeshare (cheaper with good trading status) for your non-Disney vacations.
