I plan to visit Trader Sam's at Poly for drinks and apps at the end of Sept. I'm looking for recommendations on what to get for food and beverages. I know they do some special things for some of the drinks. I really want a cool experience. Any tips and suggestions you can give will be greatly appreciated!

We love all alcohol so we went with our "cousin's" suggestions. Hippoto Mai Tai & Shrunken Zombie Head. Both were tasty. Zombie was a little better. Mai Tai was sweet. There were cute little things they did for each of our drinks. It's a fun place to visit. We didn't order any food.

We love the drinks at Trader Sam's... usually we grab a bite to eat at Captain Cook's first, so we can save our $ for drinks and souvenir Tiki mugs. :D

We like to get a seat at the bar if we can, but you can see most of the special effect from anywhere in the bar. My favorite drinks are the Zombie Head and the Krakatoa Punch... both have a cool mug and special effects when you order (FYI - you can order your drink with or without purchasing the mug).

We went back in 2015 and loved the experience. We sat at a community table with 2 or 3 other groups, which was fun. I wasn't a huge fan of any of the drinks we got, they all had a flavor I couldn't quite figure out, like banana or something, but I would still go back even just for the experience!

When you get the drink without a souvenir mug do they still do the special things?

There are specific drinks that have special actions when served and are served in the special mugs/glasses. Whether you purchase the mug/glass as a souvenir or not has no bearing on the special actions.

Be sure to get in line 30 minutes before opening to get a seat. Otherwise you might wait in line a while before you get in.

Shrunken Zombie Head and the Uh-Oa are my favorites. DH likes the Pearl. The dumplings and tacos are really good.

All the drinks are served in the mug, but you don't have to buy it (with the exception of the Pearl, they won't reuse those so you have to buy that one). They ask you before they bring the check if you want to buy the mug, and if so, you pick one up as you're leaving that's new and packed in a box.

We're hoping to go in October. Any word if they will be releasing a special mug like the hitchhiking ghosts?

The Uh-Oa was great! Be aware that drinks are pretty pricey at TS.

We love trader sams...Just an FYI you can order the sticky wings from Tambu/Ohana as an app even though they aren't on the menu.

Is the Spikey Pineapple still only available outside at the Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace? The MDE phone app's menu shows it available inside at Grog Grotto also, but I thought it was only available at the Tiki Terrace.

We had so much fun! I went with my husband before our Cali Grill dinner, and I was disappointed that we couldn't hang out longer. I had Rosita's Margarita and my husband got the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum. Both were VERY strong, although his was a little sweeter than I like. The effects are so much fun to watch and just in general everyone is having a great time and very friendly.

I'm ok with them being a little pricey but how pricey are we talking. I can afford it but my sister, who will be with me, may not be able to do too much. (Gotta love when those student loan payments kick in.)

If you're not buying the glasses, the drink prices are pretty typical for Disney bars. Keep in mind the Uh Oa and Nautilus are two person drinks, and therefore more expensive.

Both of those comments are an understatement! :) I really enjoy everything about the Grog Grotto (except maybe the check - but then I figure I am paying for the show too). Incredible place. But it is tiny. I get there right at 4:00 pm when it opens and it fills up quickly. I am going to try and get a party of 9 in there in October. We will be at the door with a pager. lol.

Watch you wallet, one drink cost me $30. That did not include the glass. I will stick to TS at DL from now on as this one gave me major sticker shock.
