I just received the advertisenent from Trader Joe's and they have brined turkey's for $1.79 per pound. I know we have many TJ lovers on the board and was wondering if anyone can give me a recommendation for it? Sounds interesting.

bump, I would like to know too.

a couple years ago I bought a stuffed turkey breast from TJ's, it was very good, not sure if its the same thing advertised now, I have to look at the ad, I am due for a TJ's trip!

I was just in Trader Joe's yesterday and saw them putting out the turkeys. They've never had them before in this area (and maybe they've just not ever done it before) so I can't get a rating either. However, if they are brined they are probably going to taste a lot like a kosher turker which, in my experience, is pretty good and juicy.

The only drawback to a brined turkey is that the cooking juices can be rather salty so it can effect your homemade gravy.

Don't see any reason not to get a $.39 a pound turkey and brine it yourself. Have been seeing the brine spice/herbs being sold, and it only takes 24 hours or so.:thumbsup2

We bought a large brined turkey from Tradery Joes last year and it was great. My DS loves Alton Brown's show and wanted to brine his own (he's 23 and STILL at home :sad2:) so buying the TJ's turkey satisfied this need and avoided the mess at my house. Have you seen what goes into AB's turkey brining??? Yeah, like I am gonna do all that for a moist turkey.

Prior to this I have always used Butterball. I tried Honeysuckle White one year and it just wasn't as flavorful. We really all liked the TJ's brined turkey. The Butterballs are usually about $1.29 around here each year. I know I can go for cheaper prices but I only like turkey once a year so I want it to be really good.

Thanks for the recommendation! And yes, I did see Alton Brown brine a turkey. While I might attempt it someday (NOT a holiday), I can't imagine adding that to my foot long 'to-do' list, no way. That is why the TJ brined turkey intrigued me. Thanks everyone, I'll let you know if I try it. :)

That's what I would say to.... super simple to do and a whole lot cheaper.

Then you better not google "Thompson's Turkey".... the very thought might have you :scared: ....:rotfl:

Roughly 40 ingredients and 2 hours of prep work.... and 2 different cooking temperatures! Plus you need 3 GIANT sized bowls. :rotfl:

I make it almost every year.
