CrossStitch.JPG

It took me a year, but I've finally completed this beautiful cross-stitch project titled "Film Strip" by Leisure Arts. I would like to trade the original graph and instructions and color photo for another comparable Disney cross-stitch graph. My original is in used condition with tape down the centers, but it is completely legible and clean. It includes DMC cotton floss (thread) identification numbers. The finished size is 13 1/3 inches by 10 1/3 inches on 14 count Aida. I would prefer to trade it for the graph of Cinderella's Castle and Tinkerbell that is currently available with a kit at WDW, but I will consider any offers of graphs of comparable size, detail, and/or price that feature Mickey and Friends or Park themes. I'm not interested in any other characters for cross-stitching. Trades only with each person paying their own postage. Interested? Contact me at joliekae@cs.com. Thanks.

That is beautiful! Congrats on getting it finished...... I would never have the patience for something like that :)

Joliekae,
I am almost finished with the Castle. I can send it to you. I made a few copies because I knew I would want to share with others.
I also have the color chart.
The only problem with the Castle is that they included a really neat holographic thread to blend with the regular thread to make certain parts of the castle sparkle.
I haven't seen this thread in any craft or needlepoint store.
I ran out of a few colors and was able to match all but one to what was in the kit. They either sent the wrong color or it was a tremendously different dye lot, but I do so much counted cross stitch that I had some almost the same color from another kit. The other colors were the same as the DMC thread color listed on the chart so I think the dye was off when they made the color they sent me.
As soon as I finish this kit I hope to finish my Self Portrait. that is one of the hardest kits, Mickey's pants alone are composed of 5 different colors of red. And the stool that looks brown on the pin is 7 different colors in the kit.
I would be happy to make copies of this kit also. Just don't anyone turn me into the company. Peggie

Peggie,
I would love to have a copy of that pattern (the castle). I still have to do my self portrait cross stitch picture. It looks like it is going to take forever.

JolieKae, WOW! What a lot of time & energy went into that cross-stitch piece! I've xs big pieces like that & I know how much work it is - good for you!

Thank you, everyone. I believe Mickey527 and I are going to trade. Yea!

This is the first large one that I've totally completed. I usually lose interest in them after I've finished the Xs and it's time to outline. I kinda lost interest in it around September and didn't even look at it for about four months, so I guess it really only took me about eight months total. Some days I'd work on it for only half an hour, while some nights I'd stay up listening to Art Bell on the radio and cross stitch until the sun came up and my arms and fingers were numb. It was enjoyable.

Can't wait to get started on another, but first I've gotta make a trip up to Michael's and our brand-new Hobby Lobby to look for holographic thread.

I have TONS of x-cross stitch books from eons ago (as that was once my addiction). But no Disney -- Dang. :(
If either of you ever want to trade a Disney pattern for an entire book/pattern book, LMK!
I may even have some fancy-schmancy fabric left. But that would be old too.
Back in those olden days, I use to teach needle art to newbies.
Nice trick if you use two ply --
Double your floss by looping it. Keep the loop at the bottom, the two end threads at the top by the needle. On your first stitch, run your thread up and back down into the fabric and your needle through the loop. Viola! No loose ends to come undone and your back is very nice and tidy!
Also for newbies, the mistake I saw the most was sewers traveling all over the back with their thread. I think the rule of thumb was never travel more than a few inches and weave your thread threw your other stitches on the back.
I almost bought the castle kit at WDW in January. But it was $40 and on DARK cloth. I've done that one before. What a pain. I remember having to hold the project up to the light just to see the holes. (And I'm a stabber.) ;)
When I was x-stitching I was determined to have EVERY color DMC made. And I did it. Then gave it up. And there they all sit, in the plastic sealed baggies.
Have you ever used the larger count (5 or 8 maybe  ) and used 1 or 2 ply yarn instead of floss? I used glass beads, x-stitched on baskets, you name it. No wonder my eyes are bad! ;)

WOW!!!!

That is so cool...

Anyone who wants the Castle let me know. Send me your address and I will get a copy of the pattern to you. I don't get back to the copy machine until Saturday so I can't get it to you until then, but it will be worth the wait.
I am doing the castle on a dark blue sweater, and I hope I can get it finished for the cruise. Then I hope they have the air conditioning really high so I can wear it.
I am doing the Self Portrait on a white tunic. I may get that one done by next year....
And I know alot of you have seen my Mickey and friends in his car. I did that on a white sweatshirt about 7 years ago and I wear it everywhere. All my cross stitch patterns are done on 14 to an inch waste canvas.
I think I will do the filmstrip on a denim jacket.
What am I ever going to do if I ever get a chance to move to FL. All my patterns are done on long sleeves and we know it is always hot in FL. Peggie

Peggie,
I'll bet that filmstrip will look awesome on a Denim Jacket!
I would love that Castle pattern.

Jolie.......that is truely a beautiful piece of art!
I used to do xs at one time, mostly holiday ornaments for the tree. I kind of gave up when the little guy came along (okay, so he is 9 now......lol)......then the eyes are not what they used to be......think it is from reading all the fine print on the back of pins ???????
But now you have peeked my interest again......darn you......hehehehe
Think I will start small and see how I do!

Just AWESOME..congratulations on finishing it!..I know how tedious a project that is..took me a long time to finish the Self Portrait one I got in 1996-LOL!..I still have a Beauty and the Beast dancing in the ballroom one to do..but have just asked Peggie to kindly share a copy of the castle one too..they all look so great when finished..and I know you have a feeling of real accomplishment..JOB WELL DONE!
