Hi all! I have some questions for those of you who use Tracfones while at Disney. We're going to buy 3, one for myself, DH and DS (9, just in case he gets separated from us...hey, they're only 15 bucks, why not? :goodvibes )

Have you had them delivered to your hotel? How did that work out re: activating them and whatnot? Does anyone know how I go about sending them to ASMo? Do you think I'll be able to sell them on eBay, since I can't use them when I return to Nova Scotia? Should I add extra minutes? Anything else I need to know? :)

Thanks so much for your help, I'm kind of lost with the cell phone stuff :flower3:

Can't really help you with your questions even though we own 2 Tracfones. We bought ours at Walmart in Orlando, we keep ours active by adding minutes every 90 days. I don't know it would even be worth selling them on Ebay, as they as so inexpensive to get and need to be re-loaded by the registrant (online anyway). Sorry.

We also bought our Tracfones @ Wal-Mart in the USA.

Tracfones will have next to no value on ebay (the cost is as low as $15 new, so why buy used????). I'd hold onto the phone for your next visit to the USA.

We activated ours using the internet (you must be located in the USA when you activate, as your phone must be in the Tracfone network). All the activation info is included in the box that contains the phone, etc.

Codes can be purchased on the internet, or at many USA retailers (we purchased our codes at the Hess station @ Boardwalk).

Just an FYI the phones are good even if you let it go off the network you can just re activate it later not only that but when you do activate it they will assign a Canadian number to it for you so if anyone from home has to call you they have a local number to dial and it rings through to you in Florida at no additional cost. We ust bought 2 of the 49 dollar units with the free double minutes for the life of the phone so even if we let the airtime run out the next time we activate it on teh network we still get double minutes on any card we activate on the phone.

Well, I've learned a little, isn't the Dis great?? :goodvibes The only reason I thought about selling them is because we don't go to the US, ever, so I really won't need them. But you're totally right, they're dirt cheap so why bother ;)

One of you mentioned the Boardwalk, did you buy your phone there or just up your minutes? I was going to have them sent to ASMo because we're flying in and won't be going off site anywhere to buy them.

Thanks again!

I'm a Tracfone user....you can't buy the phones on-line with a Canadian credit card. Why? I don't know, but I have tried multiply times to add minutes to mine on-line and it has always directed me to call the customer service number. When I call they tell me that the purchase won't go through because the cc is Canadian.

You can buy disposable phones in the airport. There are many different brands and they all cost roughly the same amount. Tracfone and Net10 are the cheapest but Verizon, T-mobile, etc. all have them.

I bought minutes (not phone) at the Hess station @ the Boardwalk.

Net10 is apparently owned and operated by Tracfone according to the lady we spoke with at the Trafone info number that came with our phones.

You're right that you can't buy airtime with a Canadian credit card. What I have done though, is buy the cards in the U.S. and activate it on-line and then have to call the 1=800 for the minutes to show. The other thing I have done is to have a friend add time (that is a U.S. citizen with an American Credit Card), and then just pay them via Paypal. Both work out just fine.

That's right...Net10 and Tracfone are the same company but there are some differences between the phones and the service.

We just bought 120 minute cards when we bought our phones so with the double minutes it is actually 240 minutes for 20 bucks.

We had great difficulty activating the international calling feature on our TracPhone this March! Why they didn't activate it when we asked them the first time, I have no idea. We had to phone back twice and each time they tried to tell us that it would take 48 hours! They gave us the run around big time and we were never able to make international calls ( to Canada mind you) the whole time we were down there. But the phones are cheap and basically can be treated as disposable. I may try to activate it again this July in LAX on our way to Australia, just to see if it will work there. I have mixed feelings about using it again. :confused3

With Tracfone you cannot make international calls using 1+ dialing (ie you cannot dial 1-416-210-1234). You must first dial (from your tracfone) their international access line @ 1-800-706-3939, follow the prompts, and then dial your international #. You must follow this process each and every time you wish to make a call outside of the USA. This info is on tracfone's website, but it is not easily accessed.

You still need Tracfone to activate the International access feature first, similar to when you first activate your phone. We didn't even make it that far! They had loads of excuses about high demand and not being able to activate it on a weekend. Thanks for other info though! If I ever activate it again, I will keep it in mind! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure where you got this info from. You do not need them to do anything for you to call the 1-800...as mentioned by Ontfamily. It's the same as calling any 800#. I have been using my phone for a long time now and have always just dialed the international 800#.

If you want to have someone in Canada call your Tracfone without the long distance charges that is when you need Tracfone to activate a special number for you. Which can be done simply online.
