Does anyone own and use the LG 800G from tracfone? What do you think of it? Is it easy to text with?

Can anybody tell me why only certain tracfones can be activated in certain areas. Where I live (upstate NY) only three phones are "available" in my area when I put in my zip code. I would think service is service. Shouldn't matter what phone you buy.
Thank you "ladyhawk". Your reply was very helpful. Now I have another stupid question. How do I know what phones are CDMA. I think if I undertand your reply, any CDMA phone will work in my area (verizon) The phone I have right now doesn't have a camera. I don't need anything super fancy but I would like a camera and I don't like the flip phones.
If you have T-Mobile service in your area, you have to make sure you don't get a T-Mobile service Tracfone if it is spotty in reception. Tracfone GMS phones work on T-Mobile and AT&T service. Tracfone seems to like to give T-Mobile if there is any hint of service in the general area.I'm in the market to switch from T-Mobile (can't get service at times when I need it) to Tracfone. I've been reading about the LG800G. Wondering if those who purchased this summer still like it and would recommend it. The other options are Samsung T404G and Motorola EX124G. They are all triple minutes for life. TIA.
