Depends on the ages of your party. We are two adults and were not impressed with AS2 at all. More for small children IMO. Toy Story Mania is fun.

Depends on what you make out of it. Me and my much bigger 14 year old son spent the entire ride squishing each other in a significant, intentional, over-reaction to the whipping motion. We had a blast and laughed as much on that ride as we did any other the entire visit.

Was it a 'thrill' ride. No, absolutely not. But, we found a way to create an experience we will remember for a long time.

Over Thanksgiving, a busy week, we did a FP for TSM one day and rope dropped Alien Saucer on a different day. Our FP for TSM still took about 20 minutes, while we were literally the only people on Alien Saucer. We could have ridden Saucers again with no wait, but decided to stick to our schedule. When walking out of Toy Story Land after riding Saucers (it was Thanksgiving Day), TSM standby was already up to 45 minutes. Based on that experience, I would definitely use the same approach again, and do FP for TSM and rope drop Alien Saucer. Saucers is a quicker ride as well and it provides a better opportunity to ride again or get somewhere else earlier than does TSM.
What did you do about slinky dog Dash?

Agree with those who say AS2 is a big disappointment... Sorry wasted a FP on it. It's suitable for under 5's as an easy no thrills ride.

My 10 year old was completely bored on it, and asked me why I chose it.

We went on Alien Saucers on our last trip and have no need to ever ride on that again. I'd only go on it if the wait was zero minutes and even then may skip it. TSM I could go on a dozen times in a row.

I vote TSM! My boys (age 15 and 12) were very underwhelmed by AS2.

We actually were killing time waiting to get in the line for SDD shortly before close and AS2 had no line at all. We rode 3 times in a row just waiting for the next cycle. That was Labor Day week, though, so crowds were low.

If you have done Mater at DLR, I would skip it and do TSM. It's identical to Mater but for some reason, I enjoyed it much less. I got the impression that Mater whipped you around more intensely. I found AlienSS to be a big letdown, and TSM is so much fun. If you have never done Mater, I would definitely do AlienSS just to experience it.

Really appreciate all these opinions! The poll is currently ~63% for TSM vs ~37% for AS2 but has flipped back & forth which does make me feel better about not being able to decide. I think I will stick with the FP for TSM for now and see what happens. Unfortunately we're not going to be able to rope drop HS this trip, but we will have a few half days there so hopefully we'll be able to fit Aliens sometime. We'll be there at night once so if we skip Fantasmic to see TSL at night maybe that will help.

This made me smile because it reminds me of so much of me, my mom & my sister. And reminds me that I shouldn't be too worried about making "the wrong choice" because I'm sure we'll get a story we can reference for years to come (like the time we waited an hour for Nemo, finally got on it, and could barely get off the ride because we were laughing so hard at the fact that we waited an hour for that. We talk about it at least once a month lol.)

We have been to Disneyland several times over the last couple years because my main office is in LA. We noticed the Alien Saucer ride is almost exactly like the To-Mater ride in DL. It’s a cute fun ride that we ride because it has a seriously short line, but it’s not one that I think I’d burn a fastpass for. Especially if your kids are very old. TSM is still the better experience for most people

We did the Mater junkyard ride in DL and we enjoyed it. I think part of the appeal was that the “cars” looked just like the tractors in the movie. I don’t see the same appeal when I look at the alien ride. But we did like the whipping around feeling. I don’t think it seems FP worthy but we would definitely give it a “whirl” if the SB line is short enough.

I don’t see SWGE ride FPs replacing other Tier 1 FPs. I think they will both be Tier 1 and you will only be allowed one Tier1 FP in SWGE per day just like Pandora. Or is that obvious? Lol.

And MMRR will just be an additional Tier 1 and probably not replace a TSL one.

I think my last reply about SWGE and MMRR was in reply to another thread. I thought we had those comments in this one too. Sorry!

I think TSM is fun for all ages, AS2 was only enjoyed by my 5 year old and the aliens are his favorite toy story characters. Unless you have a small child or big alien fan I don't think you would miss this. The ride itself is extremely short.

Has anyone had luck getting a 4th FP for either Aliens or TSM? I am planning to get a FP for TSM over Aliens on our first day. Just wondering what the likelihood of getting either as a 4th FP has been for folks?

You will likely be able to get either as a 4th in my experience as long as you don’t try for a large party size (split it up if you do). I would personally not use a FP for Aliens. It was not a fun ride for any of us, and very short. It did come up as a 4th FP, but then so did TSM. As OP said, I would not ride AS again even if it was walk on!
