We plan to rope drop at DHS. ANd planning on heading directly to toy story. I remember 6 years ago there was appears to be 8,000 people at the gates and we all zoomed to Toy Story. Is it still like this? The masses all went directly to toy story at this day?

Also, please verify there's two different entrances for toy story right?

Still one of the most popular rope drop attractions, depending on crowd levels you will find a lot of people heading there. There's only 1 entrance to TSMM and now 2 exits depending on the track you are loaded into

thank you yulilin. I thought I saw on youtube with the third track was provided, what looks like two completely different entrances.

the third track has a separate exit (all the way back by the construction wall close to where the Coke Bottle used to be) but it's still just one entrance

We rope dropped DHS on 9/29 and they let people in on Hollywood Blvd for an internal rope drop. Yes, a lot of people were heading to TSMM. Get FP+ if you can and avoid the running of the bulls!

I would say the answer is "Yes, but...". Yes, it's still a mass flocking to TSMM at park opening. However, the third track has significantly improved the ability to deal with it. In the old days, within 20 minutes of park open, the line would already be at 90 minutes. Now the line can stay lower, longer. But it still will get packed.

Also, in the old days of paper FP+, half of the flock of people running to TSMM were going to the kiosk to get a FP+ for later in the day. That's now gone since FP+ is electronic. So the flock is a bit smaller.

The third track has also made it easier to get on the ride toward park closing. We literally walked right on it around 8:50pm a few different times.

Maybe you were thinking of a second queue to get on the ride. The main entrance is still just one, but the third track uses a different line as you get closer.

It is still one of the most popular rides to head to at RD.
HOWEVER many people are also interested in signing up for Jedi Training at RD so that does divert osme of the crowd from TSMM.

Personally I like getting a FP+ for TSMM for around 9:30am-10:30am.
Then I RD RNRC and TOT while their lines are quite short.

There is only one entrance to TSMM. There are 2 exits though depending on if you go to the old tracks or the new one.

What time should we aim to get at HS? I checked the shades of green website for bus schedule and it looks like the first bus will leave at 1/2 hour before the park opens. Is there intense security check too?

I would try to get a fast pass. I went in September and lines were long all day, but I was able to get last minute fast passes for 3 around 3pm after my family and I completed all other attractions. So if you can't get them, keep checking. People change their fast passes all the time.

Be at the park 30-45 minutes before stated opening to be at the front.

The security is tight at all the theme parks. All bags checked and most if not all through the metal detector.

I generally like to arrive about 30 minutes prior to RD especially since they tend to let you in a few minutes early.
Some will tell you horror stories of security but personally I've never found it to be much more than just a small inconvenience.
Keep your party together.
If you have bags be sure that all zippers are opened including if your wallet is a zip around or you have a small zipper pouch. Also take out eye glass cases and have them open.
This really helps speed things right along.
If going bagless be prepared to take everything out of your pockets and go through the metal detector.
Even if you do have a bag be prepared to possibly have to go through the metal detector if you happen to be the next person they see when the metal detector is free.
It has never taken me more than a couple of minutes to ge through security so don't be too concerned about it.

just saw 95 minute wait at Toy story...ugh!

There are two entrances for Toy Story. BUT one is the standby entrance and the other is the FP entrance.

Everyone has their own way of doing it, but no way would I show up to a park 45 minutes before opening. If anything, I'd get there 5 minutes ahead. You'll still get on TSMM without a major wait, though that'll depend on time of year. In the summer, we showed up at 9:15 and the wait was only 20 or 30 minutes posted (and about 15 minutes actual time).

Security is "tight" by Disney standards, but it's still easy and quick to get through.

If I showed up 5 minutes prior to RD I would not get on RNRC twice and TOT twice within the first 30 minutes and to me that makes it worth showing up a bit earlier. I'd rather wait for the park to open then wait in a line for an attraction.
