DS(9) and I are planning an October trip to WDW, and are looking for a place to stay. We have decided that the height of luxury would be to have a house to ourselves, with our very own pool. We live in a tiny city apartment here, and the idea of having a whole house to ourselves sounds like fun.

However, I've only ever stayed onsite so I need someone to walk me through the process -- what website etc . .

Basically we want 2 bedrooms or more (do they make 1 bedroom pool homes), clean, with our own pool, and hopefully some Mickey theming somewhere in the home.

Distance to WDW isn't a huge concern (we like driving), within limits of course.

We're going the week after the week of Columbus day.

I have only stayed at a house once...I loved it!!! I found mine on vacationrentals.com...just go there go to florida..then to disney area. WE were less than 15 minutes away from disney..took no time at all and very easy to back home in the middle of the day. I will never do a hotel again. We had our own pool and someone came in the mornings to clean it..we only seen her once. You have to clean your own house though..but no biggie. We loved it. We got to check in early because nobody was the there the day before. They just gave us a code to get in and no problems at all! Very easy and have fun

We stayed in this 5 bedroom home in WP:

Super comfy beds and a Mickey room upstairs.

There are tons of options for you if you need a smaller place. I remember a home with a Mickey shaped pool. Go to the www.vrbo.com site and you can contact the owners directly (you save money this way).

Other options...
http://www.romancingthemouse.com/ (another owner we almost went with, but dates didn't work)

http://www.allstarvacationhomes.com/ (property management company where our place was managed through - although we saved money going through the owner)

Whomever you pick, just make sure you feel comfortable with who you are dealing with. I have seen too many threads of people who have had a bad experience because they did not have responses from the management company or the owners.

Hope you find something that works! :goodvibes

Thanks everyone. A lot of those homes are sooo big! We live in a 550 square foot apartment, so 5 bedrooms would probably send us into shock.

When I go to the VRBO site it asks me which cities I want -- any suggestions. When I say we like to drive, I mean, of course within reason, are all of those cities really within say 1/2 an hour?

I hear good things about Windsor Hills -- which city is that?

I like Davenport. I've stayed at the Solana Resort homes and I'm going to stay in Florida Pines this December. To get a home with a pool, it's likely you'll need to get at least a 3BR home. The one I got this December only costs $550 for an 8 day stay...pool heated is extra, but that price includes tax, and the cleaning fee is waived. I think it's worth it to drive about 20-25 minutes to the park for a clean, safe, private, quiet pool home.

I got this on VRBO.com, by the way.

We stayed at Windsor Hills and loved it-- it is in Kissimmee (I think) and about 5-10 minutes from Animal Kingdom. You may find less expensive places further out, but WH is really awesome. Try VRBO or Windsorhillsrent.com (may need to remove the "s" - can't remember). Feel free to PM me if you need details-- we had a 3br townhome with splash pool this year and next year will have a 5br home with pool and spa.

You can find listings for Windsor Hills on their own site www.windsorhillsrent.com or on the vrbo listings for Kissimmee:
http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/florida/central-disney-orlando/kissimmee
Windsor Hills, Encantada, Terra Verde have townhouses with either 12 by 12 foot splash pools or slightly bigger pools. You can find 3 bedroom pool homes in some of the subdivisions like Lindfields, Indian Ridge, Chatham Park and various other subdivisions. You can also try the listings for Clermont and Davenport which are within 15 or 20 minutes of Disney.

We are staying at Villa Del Sol in Windsor Hills in November. It is a 3br townhouse with pool. Check it out.

This is the VRBO listing, but I actually went through the WH site. Have fun!

Another site you could try is VacationHomeRentals.com - a little more user friendly than VRBO IMHO. Look under Kissimmee and then you can pick the number of bedrooms and your dates to see what is available :goodvibes
