I am planning to fly into Sanford Airport for the first time. I've reserved a town car with FL Tours which includes a "meet & greet." I need to know if this "meet & greet" by the FL tours driver will include his helping me pick up my baggage and carry it to the car. I am traveling alone with DGD and may still be using one crutch following a leg surgery. So, I'll be able to carry my carry-on and DGD can carry/pull her small bag. But I'll need to find help with the other bag. THANX for your help.

I've never used FL Tours (a board sponsor), but other such services we have contracted for have included helping with the bags. To be safe, you could re-confirm with the service and explain your situation so there is no surprise.

BTW, how did you book and what was the rate? We flew into Sanford for the first time in July and rented a car. We're flying to Sanford again in February and would consider a town car at the right price.

Thanks

You could try Flash's Transportation Service - 407-908-5510. He is a really NICE guy, don't remember the rate, but, might be worth a call.

The driver should help you with your luggage. The rate from Sanford to WDW should run between $180.00 and $230.00. There may be lower quotes but than they expect a 20% tip on top of it. If you have a family consider an SUV. There is much more room for baggage and passengers. The Ford and Chevrolet SUV's ride much better than any town car.

Flash may be a nice guy, but he wouldn't get my recommendation for Driver of the year.

Hello Edd, do you know Harry Flash? Why won't he get your coveted driver of the year? SUV's never ride better than a towncar, the suspension does not allow for a comfortable ride. Even with the rates you have quoted, they all expect a 20% tip, so, with a lower quote you are ahead of the game.

I do know Harry Flash. Evidently, and I will be specific, you have never rode in a Chevrolet Suburban. A towncar is crowded, no luggage area and with three to five persons in it you feel every bump in the road. In a Suburban no matter when it is full or just one passenger it rides as tight as and as comfortable as the town car when it is new and has only the driver in it. I have been told by an Excursion driver that the SUV rides like a truck. I have never driven an Excursion so I don't really know. I have driven a town car and a Suburban enough to know the Suburban has a superior ride to the town car.

They can expect a 20% tip, but you don't have to oblige anyone with a tip. A tip should be earned and if you have a sorry driver, as far as I am concerned, you don't have to drop an extra dime on him. I know of two companies who quote less than what I printed, but include in the quote, "plus a 20% gratuity." 20% of $180.00 is $36.00 or $216.00 for the ride. In my book a gratuity in not required, it is earned.

Actually, I have ridden in a Suburban. And, I will agree to disagree on this one.
I agree with you on the tip. It should be earned. I have not found Harry to be anything but an excellent driver, but, then again, we need to agree to disagree on this one too.

THANX for the comments everybody!

Boys, boys... ;) I can't settle your debate of Town Car v Suburban, but I can tell you that I am sure a TC will be fine for us. As I said in my OP, it's just me & DGD this trip. So my main concerns are safety and the availability of someone to help with baggage since I may still be using a crutch.

Got Quattro? I'm glad to hear that you've had experience with this airport and with FL Tours. You are from my area - STL (GO CARDS!) So I assume you flew out of MidAmerica also. I've only used Lambert to MCO, but I couldn't resist that $59 fare.

Sandi - There is a link to FL Tours on this site. You can reserve on line and I felt comfortable doing so since they don't ask for credit card info. You either pay cash at the time or you can call in your cc info a few days before - which I will do if I stick with them. I thought they were a little pricey - $229 round trip includes all fares and grocery stop but not gratuity. At 20%, that means about $275 total - which is more than my bargain air fare! I don't mind paying a little extra if they're safe and reputable, don't want to be stuck in a small airport with a child late in the evening. But I'm still shopping around...

LOL, just a FYI, I am not a male, I am a female. :)

Although I haven't used them from Sanford, I have used Sunray many times from MCO. According to their website, the rate from Sanford to an Orlando Resort is $180. That includes a free grocery stop (if you need it). Roger has always helped my with my luggage.

THANX again all!

I will be checking into Flash's & Sunray.

Oh, BTW disneyldwjr - sorry!

We have used FL Town Cars several times, and each time they have helped load/unload our luggage - and would have done it completely if we would have let him.
