In the past all our trips with kids have been in sept or oct... With my kids getting old enough to be in school (DD struggles and I dont want her to miss school) I was thinking the week starting with memorial day would be ok...their summer break starts that weekend.....my question is will the crowds die down after monday or is it full force crazy by then.... We will probably be off site and avoid emh parks (rope drop a non emh park)....may even avoid going to a park at all on the holiday...use that as an off day and just use the pool...I know it won't be low crowd levels like sept...but is it "can't walk down the pathways crowded?" We normally rent dvc points....looking at an off site condo to make some of our own meals....family of 5 (mainly due to availability this close to travel date and cost since our youngest is no longer an infant). I thought that week would be less crowded than june/july....they start school mid August so late August is out.

All I can say is the worst week we every spent at WDW was over Memorial Day...granted it was a number of years ago but it was HOT, HUMID and crowded and even our DD's have commented for years how horrible that trip was. We are DVC's members so we have had many wonderful trips to mouse land, but the last on the list was the Memorial weekend trip....such is life.

We arrived the Saturday of Memorial day weekend back in 2010. I didn't think the crowds were unusually heavy. That being said we are rope drop people who use TouringPlans.com to plan our parks and attractions. This may have an impact on the way I feel. It was crowded like a typical summer to me. It was by no means July 4th crazy. I wouldn't hesitate to go at that time again.

I will second that part about it being hot. The heat index the entire week we were there was like 105 degrees. Seriously Hot. We walked to the boat dock in the morning and were drenched with sweat before we even walked into a park. But that is Florida in the summer.

we have been 3 times mid June and once the week leading up to Memorial Day. This year we will arrive the Thursday after Memorial Day. I don't anticipate the crowds to be any different. It will be hot and humid but not as bad as July/August. Expect a lot of rain though.

2010-arrived the Wednesday after Memorial Day.
2012-arrived the week after MD.
2013-arrived on MD.
2014-arrived on MD.

In our experience the week of MD has never been more crowded than any week in July. I would not visit MK on the actual holiday, we went to Epcot in 2013 and HS in 2014. Didn't feel crowded at all. In 2012 we went the week after MD (first full week of June) and it was more crowded than the week of MD in my opinion.

Totally agree with the previous posters, it is not as bad as peak summer. I have been the past 2 Memorial day weeks, and yes it is very hot, and sometimes crowded but completely manageable. Our strategy has been to do pool time around noon and then hit up the parks at night. They usually have pretty late hours, so it works out well. If you are a morning person, doing rope drop and then a mid-day break might be a good choice!

Thanks for the responses.....we are from south alabama and hike/ play outdoor sports a lot....so heat/ humidity is something we can deal with. We have fans and frog togs from ball season. It sounds like for the times we can go during our schools summer break its our best option. It doesn't sound like early aug would be any better crowd wise and may be more crowded....we will do rope.drop and maybe take monday as a park "off" day.

Crowds are the same for the other days around that time of year with the exception of MK in the AM if they do the 24 hr day. It is heavy then in the morning.
