Touring OKW

I toured OKW several yars ago. Finally bought in last year before points were all gone. Have not stayed at DVC yet as I don't want to start borrowing from points right off the bat. I will be taking a trp to WDW in the next few weeks (not staying at DVC) and I plan to go by OKW to "check it out" again. Now that the Hospitality House is gone, what do I need to make sure I go and check out for future visits? We only toured the sleeping rooms when visiting before. Any suggestions appreciated.

I think you mean the Commodore House. At least that's where we started out viewing OKW. The HH is still there, that's where you check in.

As far as "seeing" anything, OKW is pretty laid back, and it's the actual staying there that gives you the true enjoyment.

But, there's Olivia's Restaurant, The Gurgling Suitcase (a small little bar right on the walkway by the boats), there's the Community center, the exercise room, the pool (there's 3 other pools on the grounds, too), and the playground. Hank's Rent and Return is where you can rent videos, board games, etc, as well as bikes and boats. There's also the General Store where you can pick up merchandise that has "Disney Vacation Club Member" on it.

Have you seen all the different size accomodations from studio to Grand Villa? You might want to call ahead of time and ask to tour each unit.

Honestly, that's about all I can think of off the top of my head. You really need to STAY there to truly enjoy it. Request a view of the golf course, it's wonderful in the morning to sit out on the balcony sipping coffee, and watching the golfers play. Truly relaxing.

Don't worry, you made a great investment of your vacations to come!

See how long it has been since I even set foot on the property. Would they actually take me to see all the different size accommodations at this point? I thought I could do this at BWV, but I know they aren't really the same size.

I can't wait to stay the first time. Our Use Year is Sep, and we will be making some plans for next Spring. Long to wait to stay since we signed the papers, but I really don't want to Borrow. Would rather be in a Banking situation if anything.

Go to the front desk and ask if there is a villa you could see. I'd go between noon and 3- they should have a room cleaned during that time. If there is a room available- they will be happy to give you a peek. The GV's are not often available like this, but you never know.

I did this on my last trip in Jan/Feb. I took the regular "tour" and informational sit down at the Vacation Club location at BW. I decided that I wanted to look at all the locations while I was there before deciding whether I was going to purchase with DVC or not.

I took a short tour at VWL to see the layout of the facility and the surroundings. They are beautiful and I hope to be able to stay there at some time.

I went to OKW and told them I was considering a DVC purchase and asked if there was a room that they could show me. I was interested in the studio. A very nice CM took me down to building 16 and showed me a room. She then gave me a short driving tour around the property. After returning to Hospitality House she gave me a tour of all the facilities there. She was extremely friendly and helpful.

That was the point that I decided that I wanted to purchase with DVC and that I was going to look for an OKW resale!

I'd look around Olivias and the rest of the main area and main pool, check out the smaller pools with their grills and laundry and just drive or walk around and get a feel. They usually won't let you tour the rooms but if you get there during cleaning time, you can go to various building and ask the maids to look around units they are cleaning that aren't occupied. I think you should be cautious concerning the boat to DD as it's for current guests and many times people are turned away as it is. As long as the boat's not full, you should be ok.

Lots of good suggestions. Do they usually have DVC merchandise available? It seems I remember reading that is was kind of scarce, or is that just because everyone has bought what is available and no one needs what is out right now? What kinds of things do they offer?
