If I order his tours, how long does it take to arrive, or is it all done on-line and instantly available to me? I'm really thinking about doing this since I'm one of these May people w/probable high crowds, and most people think he's got great plans that can help us see just about everything! Any info is appreciated, so thanks!

Everything is online. Now, I have to let you know that he will not do a tour expecially for you. What he will do is, you will answer some questions about what attractions you want to see at what parks, are you onsite or off, will you drive to parks or use Disney transportation. After you give him this info, he will then show you a sample tour using your attractions. then you read his articles to see why you will tour the parks on the days he suggests and see the attractions in the order he suggests. It's all about zagging when everyone else is zigging!!
I subscribed in January for my trip at the end of this month and I will NEVER go to Disney again without renewing this subscription.
I also use the PassPorter, the Unofficial Guide and the DIS, naturally. I just look at his site as another planning tool!! :flower:

It's a lot of info to wade through so if you are going to subscribe do it soon ;)

I like the info I have read on his site, but at first it was a bit stressful learning how everything worked on his site.

Yup, it's info overload so take some time to study and read it. It's well worth the money though IMHO...I thought at first that I had wasted the funds on the site since it is so hard to wade thru all the info. In the end, the info and the way he gets you thinking about the parks and crowd movements really helps. There are no custom tour plans for your trip....just up to date info.

I too thought it was a waste of money at first. I even wrote and asked for my money back. I was cluless at first. But then when I got the hang of it, i figured out, I had to make my own plans, using his guidelines it was awesome.
We are planning our first trip at the end of June, I'm crazy with the planning, but I don't think we would see as much as we are planning to, if it wasn't for Tour Guide Mike.

We are going in October and I consider myself an obsessive planner...I am so happy that I subscribed to TGM. It does take a bit of wading but it is a great deal of useful information!!

Good luck.

We're going for 8 days in August. Our family is pretty experienced, but we'll be with friends who have only visited WDW once before, and that was during the off-season.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has compared TGM with UG? Do they pretty much agree about the basics -- best day/best park, crowd-level predictions, etc? I know that Len Testa is here pretty frequently to answer questions and explain strategies; is there anyone from TGM that serves in a similar capacity on DIS?

And one more question -- once you pay for your TGM subscription, are you free to experiment with your itinerary? Or is it a one-shot deal, where you prioritize your days and attractions, get a schedule and you're done?

Thanks in advance for anyone with details. I know that most of this information is available at TGM website, but I'd like to hear from someone that's actually used it.

My subscription to TGM has run out, so I can't go back to confirm the info...but I believe that there is some difference in what Mike and Len believe are the best days/parks. They agree on some things, disagree on others. A lot of it is probably due to philosophy...both were great sources of info for our family. I probably ended up following Mike's advice a bit more and we had a fantastic time and never waited in any line for more than 15 minutes...we saw everything that we wanted to see and we were able to be quite flexible in our touring...I changed things on the run and Mike's advice was the reason I was able to do so.

Not on DIS. TGM has his own message boards and he does post there pretty frequently. He also answers email messages too.

TGM's site is all experimentation...you do not get a step by step itinerary telling you where to go and when from moment to moment like you would if you hired Len to do a customized itinerary. Personally, I much prefer Mike's approach.

However, this is a point on which I agree with one of the criticisms of TGM's site...his use of the phrase "Automatic Vacation Planner" does leave the impression that you're going to walk away with something similar to Len's product. I know that if you actually read Mike's site and the pre-buy tour info it's clear that isn't what you'll get...but I think the phrase causes unnecessary confusion. The fact of the matter is that most people don't read all the fine print (actually, it's pretty big print) before they sign up. Yes...they shouldn't be confused...but they are confused on a regular basis. If your customers consistently prove to be unable to realize what they're signing up for...I think you need to start thinking about throwing in the towel on the whole "AVP" marketing approach. That's just me...it's Mike's site.

That being said...what Mike does provide is an excellent product. He does provide sample itineraries...but his main goal is to educate his subscribers about why you should go to certain rides at certain times. He wants his subscribers to understand how he takes his VIP guests around the park so that you can "be like Mike" (to cop a phrase from another area). Armed with his sample tours and the information he provides you are able to create your own personalized tour. You want to go "commando"? It's not something Mike recommends, but with his info you could plan out one heck of commando run. Want to take it easy? You can plan that too.

He explains how the crowds "behave" at different times of the day so you can stay a step ahead of them and make sure in the part of the park they are not in. This worked amazingly well in Animal Kingdom...we followed his advice and had our area nearly to ourselves...while I saw hordes of people in other areas.

Additionally, because I was educated on how things work I was able to basically tear up the touring plan I had for one of our days in the MK and create a new one in the park...our son decided he really wanted to spend a lot of time at Donald's Boat getting drenched...it was the highlight of his day. It also shot our plan to heck. But...so what? We just rejiggered our schedule and it worked out beautifully.

Does Mike have info you won't find elsewhere? Yeah...I think so. Hundreds of tips you won't find elsewhere? Of course not. The big thing is that you get one authoritative voice on various issues that are debated to death here on DIS. There are certain things that people legitimately disagree with here...how to do things...what works what doesn't...and it can be hard to know what the answer is. Mike provides an answer without having to read through 2,000 posts on any particular issue (EMH, FPs, Park Days, etc.). Is it "the" answer? Well...his answers worked quite well for us. I did not find a single thing that we relied on that proved to be incorrect. Several of those things are matters on which hordes of people here on DIS would swear up and down do not work.

Anyway...this got a lot longer than I expected...but the bottom line is that TGM was well worth the $20 and the time I invested in reading his info.

Thank you all so much! :flower: I guess when I get home from work I'll be doing some quick ordering and LOTS of reading! If it helps me get through the probable crazy, crowd filled days at WDW, then I'm all over it! Thanks again- you all are great! :cheer2:

Lawshark, thanks very much for your detailed response to my questions. I'm a little nervous about our timeframe this year -- we've been during the last week in June and were able to avoid crowds pretty successfully. But I'm thinking that the first week in August this year is going to be even more packed than a typical summer season...so I'm doing my homework now in anticipation.

I may actually invest in both UG/TouringPlans and TGM and cherry-pick from both of them.

Bruce,

Yep...that's basically what we did too. I'm frankly puzzled by the folks who get all worked up over whether TGM is "worth it" or not and think that if they don't find dozens of exclusive secrets to the Disney Multiverse that can't possibly be found elsewhere...then it's not worth it.

TGM's basically a electronic guide book...with exceptional tips...plus messageboards...plus regular updates and tweaking for particular times of the year that simply can't be done with a published book. For the cost of a guidebook. With a money back guarantee. Sheesh. It's only $20! What is that? A burger and coke at the MK?

I know that Len's UG touring plans are proven to work very well...I'd seen some of the write ups on it (I think one was in the Wall Street Journal) and how the algorithims etc really do the trick. It's just that with a son who was not quite 4 years old...we didn't want to worry about having to "skip" steps to get back on track...so TGM's stuff worked really well for us.

I did this same thing for my trip last week....invested in both. I walked onto just about everything, rode the headliners twice or more, and, overall, had a wonderful time even though the crowds were pretty nasty while I was there. In fact, I haven't seen crowds like that at Disney since the Summer that MGM was first opened (I have typically gone in early May and Feb though). The research and planning you do will truly make or break your trip in those crowds. August is going to be much hotter and more crowded than what I experienced in late April. Go for it...get your money's worth during your stay at The World.
