I am still in total shock. My parents are TOTALLY the "anti-vacation". we never took trips as kids and they always make comments like " Your money would be better spent buying something else" when we take them.

Then today totally out of the blue my DAD hands me a check for $600 and says " put this toward your Disney Trip" :scared1:

I am speachless

Congrats! What a nice thing for him to do. I hope that you recovered from shock long enough to thank him. :lmao:

:goodvibes I think a lot of Dads become softies as they age. I know mine has.
This brought a smile to my face. Really happy for you.

LOL I almost cried! I have said a million times to my kids that thier Papa is NOT the guy that raised me. Now.. if Disney would just release free dinning? Id be all set! (i just KNOW they will)

He's at a different place in his life now. Maybe he was focused on providing for the family when you were younger. Thank him for the $ and for being your dad.

Nice...

Happy vacation planning. I hope you can use the money for a few fun little extras.

He maybe has realized that, "You can't take it with you." is true!;)

My Grandpa bought me my first car!:woohoo:

Geesh. Your post just made me realize that I need to be on medication.

My first thought was, "why such a weird number?" Why didn't he round it down to $500. That sounds like a better number, even though you would be stiffed the $100.

Now, if he gave you the $100 in the coming weeks, that would be totally acceptable to me.:thumbsup2

 I'll be on the phone with the doc's office shortly.

BTW, congrats on the trip money!!

:rotfl2::rotfl2: That was my first thought, too!!! That's too funny.

To the OP, that's just terrific!!! I'm so glad that he blessed you with the money - it'll make trip planning that much nicer. :dance3:

My parents are constantly doing things for my children that they NEVER would have done for us when we were little. I aked my mother why and her reply to me was "We like them better than we like you." :lmao:

Enjoy your extra money!!

OK, this whole thread made me smile, but this quote especially.
And my "medication worthy" thought was that I was opening a rant thread about how someone never got to go on vacation and their parents were criticizing them, etc. And why was I opening it??? That's my issue;).

And yay for you, OP!!

Congrats!!! God is good, reminds me of the saying " God will use the ones against you to bless you !!:flower3:

My Dad is the same way - my Mom just goes along with what he says/does - like she doesn't have a choice (Mom! You do!) I remember one family vacation growing up - we live in VA - drive to Hershey, PA - with the intention of going to Hershey Park - we drive up, park, get to the gate, they say how much it will cost and WE LEAVE! Dad wouldn't pay the admission price! Seriously! So we go to the Hershey store and take the tour - then leave! This was supposed to be a week long vacation. We drive to MD and spend the rest of the week at my Aunt's house - for free, because my Dad was so TIGHT!! OMG! After that year - my brother and I would fly out to Arizona and spend summers with my (maternal) grandparents and we would do the most amazing road trips! Grand Canyon, Disneyland, Las Vegas, etc.

Anyway... My DH, DD and I have been to Disney numerous times - our vacation spot of choice for the past 15 years. In 2008 - we invited and paid for my parents to come with us... I wanted them to experience the magic :wizard: The loved it!! In 2009 we rented our timeshare and went to "the other parks - SW/US/IOA/BG - while they liked the trip and had a good time - my DAD says - "it was nice - but not DISNEY!" Long story short - we are planning another trip this October - and my DAD is the driving force behind it!! He gets it! :yay: He gets it! :yay:
