Totally Last Minute Spring Fling! No DDP, Tons Of Pics! COMPLETE!

After the movie we came back to the hotel and grabbed our mugs from the room to take down to the food court for drinks. I kinda wanted a little snack and I was quite pleased to see that they were still serving beignets this late at night.

I really wanted to try these on this trip and I was so pleased that I was going to be able to do so. The girl fried them to order and they were ready in a matter of moments. I took them back to the room to enjoy them in all their deep fried glory.

:love::love::love::love:

I am a very big fan of funnel cake, but no one else I know likes it, so I never get to have it very often since I can in no way eat an entire funnel cake by myself. These beignets are the perfect solution to that problem. It is basically a funnel cake in a smaller square shaped form. Three beignets were just right for me. Love Love Love!

However, let me just give you all a little warning. I had seen other poster's pics on this board and was well aware that the powdered sugar could be messy. I was going to eat these very carefully so as not to make a mess. Impossible! I was sitting on a chair in the hotel room eating these very carefully. Or so I thought. Hubby said something that made me laugh through my nose a little bit and I somehow snorted powdered sugar all over the room! :lmao::lmao::lmao: It was all over me, the floor and the bedspread. I swear there was more powdered sugar on the floor than there was on the beignets to start with. Quite the clean up. You have been warned.

Up next... One of the best and most unique breakfasts I have ever had at WDW!

Those beignets look amazing!!!

Yeah.. I see myself covered in powdered sugar if I tried to eat them as well!!

Wow, you've been busy - loads of updates for me to catch up on. Firstly, that pork sandwich at Flame Tree (yes, I was THAT far behind) looked amazing especially once you'd added some of that yummy BBQ sauce.

Sorry you were a little disappointed with Boatwrights. But so glad you made up for it with the Gamma Ray and Beignets. If only you could have had them at the same time, that probably would have been my idea of dining perfection (although I think I would have had my Gamma Ray minus the gin - Mother's ruin and all that...)

You have me craving beignets now. Despite the fact that we are staying at the Beach Club in August, I suspect we will be paying a visit to POFQ for them. It wouldn't be the first time :rolleyes1

This morning we had to switch resorts and I really didn't want to! I loved it at POFQ! We got kind of a late start and had to pack stuff up to take over to SSR, but at least we were close by to our new resort. I drove us over to SSR and was totally insulted by the guy in the guard shack at the entrance to SSR! He looked at my I.D. and did a HUGE doubletake and said, "Are you sure this is you?" Hubby said, "What's that supposed to mean?" He told me I looked like a baby in my I.D. picture and that it was probably time to change it. With a little bit of a laugh I said, "I see, so you're calling me old?" And then he just kinda shrugged! Jeez. Thanks buddy. Not a magial start to my day. :lmao:

Anyway, we checked in at the front desk and they had a room all ready for us in Congress Park like I had requested. Excellent! I knew we would spend a lot of time in DTD and I really wanted to be able to have a quick walk over to the Marketplace.

We unpacked a few things and then headed to our planned park for the day. Magic Kingdom! My favorite park! We got there around 11am and it was already packed! We are used to coming during the off season, so it was a little too crowded for our taste. We grabbed a FP for Peter Pan and then headed out in search of some kind of late breakfast.

We had a late lunch reservation for LTT today, so we didn't want anything too big, but we were starving at this point. We passed by Sleepy Hollow Refreshments and I mentioned in passing that I had just recently seen pictures here on the boards of waffle sandwiches you could get at this place. Hubby was instantly intrigued, so we headed over to check out the menu.

He saw someone else walk by with one of the fruit covered waffles and he was sold on this breakfast idea. He ended up choosing the Ham, Prosciutto and Swiss Waffle Sandwich.

P1000748.jpg

I went with the Sweet & Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich.

P1000749.jpg

As soon as hubby saw mine he said, "Oh no I chose wrong!" Sorry bub, I'm not switching with you. Mine was heavenly! The breaded chicken was covered in some kind of sauce that was indeed sweet and spicy and then underneath of it was a kind of slaw that was amazing! Not usually a slaw fan, but in this case I certainly was. It was a pain in the butt trying to eat this waffle sandwich with my hands and I made a total sticky mess of myself, but it was worth it. I really loved this and it was so unique, but I must say that I would have prefered this on some kind of a roll rather than the waffle. That chicken and slaw on a roll with french fries would be my new favorite WDW food treat. But, even as it was I really enjoyed it.

Hubby liked his a lot too. There was some kinda of sauce on his sandwich which he really liked and the said the prosciutto was really quality and tasty too. He took a picture of his sandwich with his phone and was sending it out to everybody to share in the wonder of a waffle sandwich. :rotfl2:

Oh, and we also ordered iced coffees with this meal and I don't know what happened but they must have poured hot coffee over top of 3 ice cubes because there was no ice in our coffe and it was lukewarm. Yuck! I had about two sips and gave the rest to hubby to drink. Really wished I had ordered a soda with my sandwich.

We highly recommend this meal. If you haven't already, it is definitely worth checking out on your next visit! :thumbsup2

Yum! Those waffle sammies look AMAZING! I think yours looks much better than your hubby's. The Nutella and fruit one sounds good too. Hmmm....might have to add Sleepy Hollow to my list

I like how you describe the Beignets as funnel cakes. So right! Everyone said they were like donuts, so I tried them for breakfast when we were there in Feb. Didn't care for them as a breakfast food, but I will for sure get some for a "midnight" snack! You are so right about not being neat with them. Anyone who comes away from a beignet clean should win a prize :)

Yumm!!! Those sandwiches look so good. I'm hoping we have room in our tummy's to try one!!

DS wants to have the Nutella and fruit waffle in August. That chicken waffle looks great though so we may have to try that too.

I have to agree with you on Boatwrights. We were there a few years ago and found that the food was mostly tasteless. This is coming from someone who doesn't like her food spicy at all.

I love the look of that drink. It looks so yummy!!

Can't wait to read about the next treat!!

At least it's good to know that it wasn't just me that thought Boatwright's was bland. Such a shame though. That drink was good! Who doesn't like a bright blue drink?! :thumbsup2

Good to know about Boatwrights. I was debating that for this trip since we were staying at FQ, but I guess I will wait until I have the dining plan sometime. This trip we are just OOP for all meals, so I would hate to "waste" money on it. We will definitely walk up to Riverside to have a couple meals at their foodcourt just to mix it up a little. Love the pics of FQ from your walk over :cloud9: Can't wait!

I think you might be better off at the food court on a night you're around the hotel rather than do Boatwright's. I agree, it would be more of a dining plan type of place. The walk over was so beautiful! It only took about 10 minutes to walk there too. :thumbsup2

Those sandwiches were amazing! The Nutella and fruit one looked good too. That's what most people seemed to be getting. To me it was a place that I would rather pay for than use a DDP credit on, so this place might work out well for you if you're paying OOP on your trip.

Yeah, a beignet definitely isn't like a donut. You're absolutely right, not the greatest for breakfast, too heavy, but it was perfect for later in the day!
:thumbsup2

The beignets were excellent! Highly recommend!

Definitely try and find room for the waffle sandwiches! They would be great to share too!

I have had too much free time at work the last few days, but don't tell anyone  Love love love pulled pork sandwiches and FTB has one of the best!

The gin is what almost kept me away from the Gamma Ray. Not a big gin fan and neither is hubby. He actually shuddered when he read what was in that drink :rotfl:

I think I might go out of my way for those beignets on future trips as well!

Definitely recommend the chicken waffle over the ham and swiss. The Nutella and fruit one looked delish as well. A little more breakfasty than the chicken one for sure.

Just wanted to tell you that I am really enjoying your report! Thanks for sharing!

Oh, Im showing my DH these sandwiches when he gets home. He loves strange food & I love watching him eat strange food! :lmao: But these look good! :lmao: These look big in the pic!! I have always loved the good 'ol root beer floats from SH. =)

After a few rides in MK we headed over to Liberty Tree Tavern for our 2:30pm lunch reservation. We ate here for lunch on our trip last August and loved it! I was hoping it would be just as good this time too.

It was a really warm day and we were super thristy, so we each ordered a water and a soda. Here are the cups they use at LTT, which I really love.

P1000750.jpg

Here is a shot of the lunch menu.

P1000751.jpg

We had the Tavern Fried Cheese last time and we loved it, so we decided to order it again this time. Right before we left for this trip I read that they had changed this and I was hoping it wasn't true, but unfortunatly it was. Let's do a comparison here. This is what we got when we ordered Tavern Fried Cheese in August.

Lame Lame Lame! I can get this kind of mozzarella stick anywhere. They weren't bad by any means, but not anywhere near as good as last time. Very disappointed. :sad2:

I wasn't super hungry, so I tried to get hubby to split an entree with me since I knew I wanted dessert, but he didn't want to. He ended up ordering the New England Pot Roast Braised Beef in a Cabernet Wine and Mushroom Sauce served with Mashed Potatoes and Garden Vegetables.

P1000753.jpg

I just realized you can't see the meat in this picture. Sorry about that. He loved it and gave me a bite to try as well. Yum! Really good! I make pot roast a lot at home and this was just as good as homemade.

I got the Pilgrims’ Feast. Traditional Roast Turkey served with Herb Bread Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, and a Green Beans.

Delish! Loved everything about this dish. The only thing I would have changed is that I would have added more gravy to everything, but I'm a gravy-aholic, so maybe that's just me.

Both of us only ate about half of our meal and we asked for a box to take it back to the room for later. Hubby said, "Maybe we should have split something afterall." Geez. Doesn't he know that I'm always right? :lmao: He'll never learn.

I saved plenty of room for my favorite dessert in the whole entire world. Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. Vanilla Cake with a Gooey Toffee Filling, Caramel Sauce, and Vanilla Ice Cream

Alternate view just for the heck of it.
P1000756.jpg

:worship: Oh my gosh. It was even better than last time. As long as LTT has this I will be here very single trip. It's worth the 15 hour drive for this dish alone.

MK was really too crowded for us at this point. I think Mother's Day made this particular park even busier today, so we left for SSR and tried to decide what to do for the rest of our day.

Up next...A cool drink on a hot day!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: Well, you guys are gonna love these! They were...interesting to try and eat. They were actually pretty big. Big and messy! This was actually our first time at Sleepy Hollow, but a root beer float sounds good. I'll have to keep that in mind for a future trip! :thumbsup2

Wow! Thats quite a difference on the cheese sticks :(

Looks like a pretty heavy lunch. I think I'll have to wait until our next cool weather trip for LTT. Unless I can just go for dessert....yum that looks soooo good!

great reviews :goodvibes

The waffles are a popular snack at the moment, everyone seems to be getting them. Im jealous as they look delishious ;)

Oh ya, I love the floats!! <3

I'm so happy you have such a great review of LTT. We had a bad experience last time but I really, really wanted to try that dessert & the lunch time meals. Maybe I will give lunch a try since you guys had a good lunch!!:goodvibes
..dang gotta go to work now, but I'll be checking back tomorrow!! lol!:lmao:

:sad2: I know you already told me but I didn't want to believe it but now I have seen the evidence and there's no denying it. Such a travesty :sad2:

Glad you enjoyed the rest of your meal but I am so gutted that there is nothing special about the fried cheese any more. On a positive note, the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake looks completely awesome :thumbsup2

It was a very heavy lunch. That's why I tried to get hubby to split something with me. Everytime we ate somewhere like that I would think to myself, how did I do the deluxe dining plan twice? I have come to discover that an appetizer, an entree and a dessert is just too much for me to handle. The dessert was so amazing. What I would give for that Toffee Cake right now!

great reviews :goodvibes

Thanks! :goodvibes That darn waffle was very good! They seemed to be the popular item at Sleepy Hollow when we were there.

I was at LTT for dinner in December and I liked it a lot, but I like lunch a lot better for some reason. It's reasonably priced for lunch too which definitely helps if not on DDP. Between me and hubby we've tried 4 of the different lunch entrees now and loved all 4 of them. You should definitely give it another try for lunch! :thumbsup2 Hopefully I should have a few more updates done by tomorrow for ya!

I know! I didn't want to believe it either! :sad2: Hey Disney, if it ain't broke...

The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake definitely makes up for it at least!
:thumbsup2

Great reviews! :goodvibes

We went to LTT yesterday and I had the same meal as you. I really enjoyed it. I agree about the gravy; there wasn't enough, so I asked for more.

Those waffle sandwiches look like something I want to try! I prefer savory foods, so both the chicken and the prosciutto look amazing. Plus, for some reason I cannot have enough prosciutto lately!

Of all the times I have been to WDW, I have only once been to LTT and that was for lunch and I didn't have dessert. I may need to return if only for the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake!
