Summer 2006 Disneyland Paris Trip Report
Cast Members:
Sarah: Totally Pirates of the Caribbean obsessed, Disney enthusiast, Pin
Collector, only rides indoor coasters!
Tony: Disney enthusiast, Pin Collector, Loves all extreme rides, eats for the
UK!
Taryn: Aged 15. Disney enthusiast. Pin Collector. Loves POTC. Tim Burton
Obsessed. Very theatrical and loves any excuse to dress up especially
Halloween!
Daniel: Aged 12. Disney Enthusiast but doesnt like meeting characters unless it
is spontaneous. Loves POTC. Nintendo player and Tim Burton fan!
Part Six: Our last amazing day!
I woke up and my first thoughts were those three words which strike fear and despair into the heart of every Disney fan . our last day (well five words if you put the oh b****r at the front, which is probably what I actually thought!). I was up by 07:20am, and down we went to breakfast, and because it is our last day I will just remind you of what was on offer, just in case any of you skipped over this bit the first time:
A big bowl of mixed fruit salad
Slices of ham and cheese etc
Other whole fruit such as bananas and apples
Scrambled egg
Sausages (but not as we know them)
Bacon
Cereals (usual kelloggs stuff)
Crusty bread rolls
Croissants
Sliced bread for toast
Brioche cake
Yogurts (various)
Jam, Chocolate hazelnut spread, honey etc
Orange juice (with bits in)
Chilled water
And a new addition to the breakfast selection: a fantastic new coffee machine which did delicious café au lait, cappuccino, espresso, hot chocolate!
We decided to sit outside in the courtyard BIG MISTAKE! We were immediately plagued by a swarm of wasps, which resulted in me performing my very bizarre wasp dance every time one came by, much to the amusement of all the other breakfast guests. Now if I ever meet the person who said that if a wasp comes by you should just keep really still, I will personally sit him or her in a confined space with a swarm of angry wasps (and if I am feeling really mean I will coat them in jam first) and see how long they can sit still for!!!!!! Eventually, after moving tables 5 times and leaving an open jam pot on another table to hopefully distract them, we managed to finish breakfast. I know a lot of you will be thinking why on earth didnt you go back inside .but I thought I wouldnt want to deprive the Holiday Inn guests of their early morning entertainment, thoughtful person that I am!
Then it was time for that most soul destroying of activities .packing to come home. Once that chore was dispensed with, we stored our baggage in the baggage storage facility and headed off to the park. We arrived by 09:30, and went straight to get fastpasses for Big Thunder. The ride only had a ten minute wait posted, which is a rare sight to behold, so on we went. The wait was actually a lot less than ten minutes as we took the left hand line always gives you a massive advantage once they open up the 2 lines, and a lot of people dont realise this. We took lots of random photos today here is a Big Thunder random photo:
Next stop: Pirates of the Carribbean, and the chap in the control box was giving a rendition of Dont worry, be happy over the loud speaker, which was slightly bizarre but also appropriate as it was our last day. We rode twice on this occasion, by jumping back on the boat in front. We then decided to ride a few things we dont normally bother with, but which were quite sweet: The Pays de Conte de Fee and the Casey Junior Train, neither of which had a wait at all. We then wandered into Fantasyland and had a ride on Its a Small World. The detail in here never ceases to impress it is so colourful and happy.
We then whizzed over to Discoveryland to grab fastpasses for SM and BL. Then it was time to ride Big Thunder again, so we headed back to Frontierland. Straight after this we went back to Discoveryland to ride Space Mountain, where we rode the left hand train and came back into the station on the left side there really seems to be no reliable pattern here.
We then decided to take a tour of the park on the train, something I have never yet done. I had hoped you would see a lot of the park this way, but mostly we saw trees. Although we did pass through the caverns in POTC, which I was never aware of. There was also a bizarre dinosaur display at one point which seemed a bit out of context. We also encountered some characters heading backstage Friar Tuck and two mice from Cinderella. We went completely round to Discoveryland Station again, and then it was time for some lunch at Videopolis. Taryn, Dan and I had the chicken sandwich (no sauce) and it was really nice. It also came with an unexpected chocolate mousse creamy dessert which was surprisingly very nice too. After lunch our fastpasses for Buzz Lightyear were active, so off we went to save the universe yet again. Even though the ride stopped for ages at one point with really easy targets right in front of me, I still never exceeded Level 3 the universe isnt really safe in my hands thats for sure!
We then headed over for a last ride on Phantom Manor, which once again had succumbed to the curse of the boring cast member. Now the saddest of all sad times was upon us..the time had come to head over to Pirates for the last time this trip. On the way I took a few photos:
Now those of you who have been paying attention will have noted exactly how many times we have ridden Pirates during the past 4 days! All too soon the ride had finished and I had to be surgically removed from the boat. We went outside and it was absolutely bucketing down with rain, which just about suited my mood as by now it was time to leave the park and head back to the hotel to pick up our luggage and the VEA shuttle. On the way back to Main Street we got absolutely soaked, so naturally we had to stop off at The Gibson Girl shop for ice cream, but not to appear greedy we only had 2 scoops this time. We sat down to eat this at a table in the Discovery Arcade, and Taryn noticed a lot of references to the Da Vinci Code in the décor around this area. The metal structures had the vitruvian man in them and there were roses and pentacles all over the place. Perhaps thats evidence that Walt Disney was a member of the Priory of Zion. Anyway, it took my mind off the fact that we were about to leave the park for about 2 seconds!
So thats almost it for this trip. We went back to the hotel and caught the VEA shuttle to Charles de Gaulle airport. The terminal was absolutely heaving and really dirty litter everywhere. Its not the most pleasant airport I have ever been in. I think we had a bit of a delay with the flight home, but it certainly wasnt as stressful as the flight out there.
So until we meet again in October, this is Sarah bidding a reluctant farewell to her friends at Disneyland Paris. Well be back when its trick or treat time!!!!!!!!
