Part Three: Our first fantastic day (....continued)

Anyone feeling sleepy...it's time for our continued adventures in Disneyland! After disembarking the Mark Twain, we decided to pop along to City Hall to make our dinner reservations for the following two nights. This was very straightforward, and we made reservations at Cafe Mickey for the Friday night and the Blue Lagoon for our final night!

That sorted, our thoughts turned to food, and we headed back to Frontierland and the Cowboy Cookout. Here we all had the BBQ chicken breasts, and as per usual I had to dissect Taryn's chicken with the precision of a top surgeon, for fear she should come into contact with any bones, gristly bits, skin and any other scary things you can find on a chicken! The chicken was delicious by the way! After lunch we remembered we had some active fast passes for BTM, so off we went for our second ride of the day!

By now the park was getting busy and our previous late night was beginning to catch up with us, so we decided to head back to the Holiday Inn for a swim in the pool. On the way out of Frontierland I was stopped by a small boy who wanted to trade pins...I felt really mean as I only had a few pins and I am not really into trading, so I had to disappoint him. So back we went to the hotel, where I had a quick 30 minute power nap (works a treat!), and then we all went for a swim. The pool at the Holiday Inn is a bit bizarre as it has a flexible pool liner which is all squishy and not what you expect. The pool was fairly quiet but for some splashing teenagers, and we all managed a few lengths! Before long it was time to get ready for dinner, so we returned to the room, showered and changed, and headed off via the pink shuttle to the Disney Village, where we walked straight into Annette's Diner, our first time ever without a long wait for a table!

We were seated upstairs, so we didn't see any skating staff, but we were treated to one session of “Grease” and “Freedom”. We ordered our meals: I ordered the chilli (which is now served with fries instead of the lovely rice it used to come with...why it is so difficult to get a fry-free meal in this place!), Tony ordered a very large burger...probably the largest one on the menu, Dan had the cheese hot dog and Taryn wanted a plain cheeseburger with no sauce.
Service was a bit slow, and when everything arrived, we had a major catastrophe on our hands..... Taryn's burger had sauce on it!!!! ( not that my dear daughter is fussy or anything...I would hate to give you that impression!!). So back it went to the kitchen, and the waitress promised to bring another one within 5 minutes. 5 minutes passed...and another, and another, and another.....and in the meantime we had to start our meals as they were going cold, so we had to call the waitress over and give her a steely reminder, as poor Taryn was sitting there with a rumbling stomach! Eventually a sauce free burger arrived, and we were all happy! Here are some foody pics:

As you can see....all chosen from the “Low fat Menu!!!!”

We then had the dessert dilemma...we had arranged to meet some on-line friends outside Pirates of the Caribbean at 9pm...it was now 8:15 and we had to order dessert, get dessert, get bill, pay bill, leave restaurant and get across to POTC by 9pm...could it be done? So we decided to go for it...desserts were ordered: Taryn had a caramel sundae (as it came on the menu, which must be a first!), Dan had donuts filled with ice cream and chocolate sauce and Tony had an American apple crumble pie thing with 2 spoons.....I don't know why but he always has a dessert with 2 spoons, can't think why! Anyway, it was divine (so he tells me!). We asked for the bill before we finished dessert to make a quick getaway, and the meal with 2 drinks each plus AP discount came to 98 euros! It was now 8:45, and we had just 15 minutes to get to POTC to meet our friends.

We arrived outside POTC at just seconds past 9pm! We had arranged to meet under neath the POTC entrance, but no one was to be seen underneath the entrance....had they seen us but decided not to approach because we look too strange? I must add that we had never met these people in reality...just through a DLP forum, so we didn't know exactly what to expect! So we waited a wee while and Daniel bumped into the boy who had approached me for pin trading earlier on that day, and he ended up trading a test track pin for a haunted mansion pin. Then a very strange little man approached and kept staring at my lanyard but didn't say a word. (Is this the guy I was waiting for ...I worriedly thought to myself!!). Then he hustled us over to one side, took a pair of Alice in Wonderland pins out of his wallet and very strangely whispered.”I'm looking for Alice” in hushed tones as if he was doing some illicit drugs deal or something. Very bizarre! Fortunately we were rescued at this point by a very normal and friendly looking chap who said “Sarah”

We then introduced ourselves to our on-line friends and their family. There was only one thing we could do next, and that was to ride Pirates! So this we did! Twice!! Our friends and their family were great and didn't seem to be too concerned about our strange POTC rituals! It was amazing to meet such lovely people who were on our wavelength and could relate to our obsession with POTC and Disney in general! Although I think I heard the word “insane” from our friend's father when we persuaded them to ride for a third time!!

After the third ride, it was time to reluctantly leave POTC and go down to the central Plaza to see Fantillusion and Wishes. We were very busy chatting at this point as missed most of Fantillusion, but we did catch the transformation of Jafar into the snake! Wishes was stunning....very emotional (I always shed a tear by the end!) and I manged to video it for the first time (having missed the one in WDW as Tony took the camcorder on BTM at the same time!). The show was shorter than WDW, with less focus on the villains, but it was fantastic all the same...and really special to watch it with our new friends!!

All too soon it was over, and we said our goodbyes, and then followed the crowd out of the park. We didn't have to wait too long for the pink shuttle, which was full to bursting, and soon we were back at the Holiday Inn, where I think I fell asleep before I hit the pillow! It had been a brilliant first day!

Whoops...I hadn't realised that my DS (Capt Danny) had logged on...this should be posted by Totally Angelic!

From one very fussy eater to another - she has my full sympathy. Fussy eaters unite to press for a sauce free world. As it would make ordering food abroad a lot easier.

I have to say, the Alice man made me giggle. I wonder if he ever found Alice!

Lovely report, I'm not very good at pin trading myself I like my own too much.

Fussy eaters :sad2: - I have a DS who is sauce free, which means you always have to wait longer than everybody else, not sure why - you'd think it would be quicker without the trimmings and nine out of ten times you have
to send it back :rolleyes1

Happens a lot in McDonalds, I can't remember the last time I had a warm meal in there, I'm usually waiting for his replacement. ;)
