The last time I was at Disney, they still had safety bars on ToT. Have they all changed over to seatbelts now? That safety bar made me feel secure. :rotfl:

Just lap belts in Feb. That was my first time on ToT so I didn't know any different anyway. The guy next to me said there were some sort of handles to hold onto near the seats, but I didn't see them. I ended up clutching onto the metal grate on the side of the car...and nearly cut my fingers off cuz I was gripping so hard! :rotfl:

I believe all of the ToT seats now have seatbelts. You can pull them down pretty tight though.

You should feel more secure w/the seatbelts. They hold you in tight so you get less "air" than with a bar. There are handles to hold on to on each side I think. I always end up grabbing the arm of the stranger next to me though  :teeth:

For all you thrill-seekers if you really want to "fly" leave some room when you strap in. On the first drop its a real thrill.

Well i plan to go on it for the first time in September and will probally make the belt reallll tight. :goodvibes

The way it is designed, the belt is tight. It isn't like an airline seat where there is an adjustment feature.

darn they got rid of the bars....I really liked the flying in the air effect. I may just have to keep mine a little loose

On the otherhand it is a nice change for when my sons are riding the ride. That way it will hold them in better, I used to hold on to them so they wouldn't fly up to bad and now I won't have to worry about that anymore :cheer2:

My DD loves ToT, but she's not sure how she feels about only having seat belts. I'll have to tell her that they keep her in the seat tighter than the safety bar did.

Maybe we'll attempt Space Mountain and RnR this trip too.

I was a little nervous about the new seatbelt setup as well, but there are handles to hold on to, so it wasn't a problem at all. If you're on a wall seat, one of the handles is on the wall, which, for some reason seemed more secure to me. I really enjoyed ToT this time, and I was one of the death grip on the lapbar people before.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

I was petrified without the bars the first time, but now I realize that I 'm not going to die, and I just squeeze DH's arm and hand!

When we went last year(Spring 2004) they only had seatbelts. I was against the wall and had the death grip on the bars at all times(even when the ride finished going up and down!)

I've been on this ride both ways -- lap bar and now seat belts. I will say that the lap bar had some inherent problems, like the fact that if a large person was in your row, the bar did not come down close enough for everyone, especially children. The seat belts are all individual so everyone gets a custom fit. But... I was terrified last summer to ride with the seatbelt! I am someone who needs to hold on to something to feel secure. The handles on the seats are very short and on the sides, so you would be squeezing your hands down between you and the person next to you to hold them. I couldn't hold them. The second time I rode it I went for the row that seats you next to the wall. Along the walls are handles, and like a previous poster said the wall handle makes you feel more secure.

I love this ride! But it is the wall seat or nothing!

My first (and last) ride on TOT was at age 11, and I'm not a big thrill rider. But I enjoy Big Thunder, Test Track, and Splash, so I thought I'd give it a try. Though the falling elevator was intense, but the worst part was because of the lap bar. My parents were rather Pooh sized, and I was still quite small. This left something like a foot (though it felt like more) between me and the bar. :scared: That "air time" might be fun for some, but I was convinced I was somehow going to fly out of my seat and hit the ceiling. :scared1: So not fun... :sad2: So I'm sure the seatbelts are an improvement. But the effects on that thing are amazing. If they'd only have a "non motion seat" similar to moving theaters, I'd be there! But somehow I doubt that's going to happen. ;) So for now, I'll just amuse myself by waiting in the gift shop laughing at everyone's ride pictures. :earboy2:
