Hi all.. This weekend my sisters and I did our first 5K ever in the TOT 5K. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed the event. Our goal was just to finish which we all did.
On the positive side, the support and encouragement from all the Disney volunteers along the way was great! And it was so much fun to enjoy the party afterwards.
Keeping in mind that we have nothing to compare it to, we found the lining up at the start very confusing and unorganized. We knew that we needed to be in the back with the walkers and so we went to that area when told to line up. But then we were told not to pay attention to the pace times and just move all the way forward (that the pace times were going to be for the 13K only). So we did that and ended up in about the middle of the pack. Then they started to announce that we did need to get in the pace sections but there was no way for us to get there. So when the race started, we tried to stay to the side because everyone was running around us. We felt bad and tried to stay out of the way... sorry everyone that had to run around me!!
Picking up our check bags was also a time killer. The line was huge and it took awhile to get it.
We were also surprised that there weren't any Disney characters. I know there was the whole kidnap mystery thing but we weren't really too into that.
We are excited to do another event... although we were hoping there would be another 5K for next year. We are planning to try the relay option of the 1/2 marathon although that is still going to require a lot of training...
