I don't know of any trip reports, but I can give you some info about Tortola.
We have been to Tortola several times, the last was May 2009 on the Magic. It is a great town. Relatively undeveloped compared to St. Thomas. We took a trip with Patouche to the Baths. The Baths are a popular rock formation and beach/snorkeling spot on the nearby island of Virgin Gorda. We rode a catamaran to the Baths and swam a short distance into the beach and then had a guided trip through the rocks. We then had some time to snorkel on our own. Our kids were 9 and 7 at the time and had no problem. Another on your own option would be to take the ferry over to Virgin Gorda and then a cab to the beach. I've never done this but I think it looks easy. We then ate a a local restaurant and looked through the craft tents. There is really not much shopping in Tortola and the people of the island have a very laid back attitude that can be mistaken for inindifference The people of Tortola are very friendly. On our last trip, after our trip to the Baths we asked the cab driver that brought us back to the port after the Patouche how to get to the restaurant. He said "no worries, I will take you, no charge" It was a short walk, but nice that we didn't have to make it.
Overall, unless you like to shop, you will really enjoy this port.
