Toronto-WDW-how much I spent in gas

I have learned a lot on the Dis and now it's my turn to share my knowledge.

Just got back on Saturday and haven't written a trip report yet. I know a lot of Canadians ask about how much it costs to drive to WDW. A lot of that depends on where you're coming from and what kind of vehicle you drive.

We drove the 77/79 route. We have a 2004 Mazda minivan. We spent $339 roundtrip. This doesn't include gas we used getting around Orlando. I kept all my receipts so this is accurate. We spent $18.10 in tolls roundtrip.

One day we drove to Cocoa Beach and spent around $12 in tolls roundtrip so the other total is pretty good.

I remember once we drove about 40 min on the 407 here in Toronto and the bill was $20 so we were all pretty amazed that driving to WDW and back we paid less :)

I should have a trip report soon :bounce:

We just got back as well (Aug18-31) and our gas cost for the same route in an 04 Windstar (5 of us in the family) was US$260 for the entire time and $9 for tolls. I was expecting it to be much higher this year than the past 2 driving trips but it wasn't and the fact that the exchange rate is quite a bit better actually meant that our Cdn$ total was less than 04 & 05. :thumbsup2

we have driven the I75 route the last two Falls; 2005 in an older Windstar ($265) and last year in a new Escape ($325 with high fuel prices). We usually figure on $300, including driving around Orlando/Kissimmee.
We also expect about $10 in tolls, and $200 for hotels.

Last May we drove there and back on 175US in fuel. We drive an 05 Montana and were getting a tad over 600K out of half a tank of gas.

Thanks for sharing this :)
I'm flying down in 5 weeks but my daughter and her fiance are driving down a few days later to join me, and they have been trying to decide how much they should budget for gas. Hope you had a great trip, looking forward to your trip report.

We did the following in July and it was $500 CAD in fuel.

Kitchener -> Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach -> Palm Beach
Drove around 500-600 Miles in FL
Palm Beach -> Hilton Head Island
Hilton Head Island -> Kitchener

Somewhere in these boards I found a webpage: aaafuelcostcalculator.com, and it calculates from beginning city to end city how much gas you'll use, and your cost at today's cost of fuel. It helped us to decide motorhome VS. the minivan and a hotel. Hope this is helpful.

We drove to Disney from Hamilton in July/06, and also went to Tampa/Medeira Beach for one day. Our total cost for gas, and hotels while driving there and home was $700Cdn. We could have got a direct flight for 4 with Southwest for $644 American. I wanted to drive this time, and I don't regret it at all, but for the difference in cost, and the wear and tear on my car, I would never drive it again. 5000km on my car in 10 days makes me cringe (live and learn I guess). I'm not saying that this was all a surprise to me, but I'll be flying next time :)

But remember... You would have to pay for a rental car too... Add that to your price and I think you did well. We drive every year and when a DING fare comes we contemplate it EVERYTIME! And always end up driving. ( We are a family of 5 ).Wear and tear on the car kind of stinks... But $700 was a good deal.

That's so true about the rental car. I probably would have only rented the car for one day to go to Tampa, but I loved having my car to drive around Disney rather than relying on Disney transportation (which used another full tank of gas that I didn't include in my original price). I've used the buses on previous trips to Disney, and it's ok if that's your only way of getting around, but driving is soooo much better! I just like the convenience of flying to Orlando, and getting there fast. When I went to Disney in July, gas prices here were $1.06/litre, and there it was $2.95/gallon. I've been to Buffalo shopping just one week ago, and our price for gas has gone to .82/litre, but there it was still $2.95/gallon! Go figure eh?

The calculator has it $300 (USD) round trip for us, add $200 for hotels, and it is a $500 trip. We would be $600 for flights, $35 for gas to Detroit, $100 for our hotel. I'll spend that extra $200 on the kids, and enjoy having our own vehicle.

Ready to hear what we spent in gas ..........

Wow on the gas mileage..
Those cars are the scarest things on the road!( My opinion of course!)
I always wonder what kind of life insurance policy one would have to drive those things! Especially on the highway!Good lord!
Glad you made it in one piece.

Yes we drive our car from Barrie to Toronto to work every day during the week. It is very comfortable lots of leg room. Yes we had room for lots of shopping. What I did was take clothes to wear down that were ready to throw out and did just that to make room for more disney stuff. :)

We took one very large Suitcase, one Carry on, one grament bag. And of course we went in December so we had our winter coats and heavier clothing for Disney. I did most of my Christmas shopping and outlet shopping and it all fit.

We have had no problems shopping at costco and I use a scooter now so it goes in the car and all our family groceries for the week go in too. Though I did not have the scooter on the trip down.

Also we have 3 dogs and they all can fit into the car. The two 75 pound dogs in the back and my little Mandy 15 pounds on my lap. So you see it is bigger than you think :)

We always fly down but we are thinking on going to HH in 2008 and would like to drive then. This thread was a great idea for anyone thinking of flying vs driving. We paid $522us through Buf. KAREN 518 we live in stoney creek.

We took our 2003 Grand Prix last year and it cost us round trip around $275.00 in gas with high gas prices. We are taking our minivan this year and we are expecting around $325.00. Anything less we just spend on Mickey Bars!!!!!
