So we are heading down to Orlando 2nd week of sept.

Have a couple of questions ..

1. Where to stop half way? Any good campgrounds / Rest stops ? I have a Aliner so I can really just pull over and setup without even having to unhitch. But want it safe :) I usually drive 14-16 hours first day.

We plan on making the trip in 2 days.

2. Best route? Is the I75 a little easier on a travel trailer? I remember going through mountains taking the I90 route :)

Thanks in advance

Does that mean you would stop around Charlotte, NC? If so you might want to check out the campground near Carowinds. I understand they renovated it (they want to be Ft. Wilderness). It is very close to I-77.

If you mean south of there on I-95, there is a thread from the past couple of days with several good suggestions for SC & Georgia.
Looks like a fun place.
However, they can only accomodate MH's up to 40 feet.

I'm curious about the best route with a trailer too. We've always done I-81 to 95 but we're towing a trailer next year instead of a pop-up and are considering I-75. Any thoughts?

Are you talking about going through WV and Virginia via I79?

On I-75 you hit the edge of the Smokies going down I-75, but it is nothing close to the WV and Virginia mountains.

If you decide on I-75, the Sweetwater KOA between Knoxville and Chattanooga is perfect for what you are looking for, depending on your timing. We have used it a few times going to FW from north of Detroit, and also the trip home. It is about half way for us. You can also get to FW the next day in time for dinner reservations. They will give you a pull through close to the shower house. The sites are level, and the facility is clean.

Otherwise, there are several KOA's south of Atlanta which would work as well.

Best advice ... do not go through Atlanta anywhere close to rush hour. I have been to Toronto. The traffic is pretty impressive. Comparatively, it's not even close. Atlanta is a nightmare at rush hour! :scared:

We go to Florida regularly from Hamilton in our motorhome pulling a car, we also pulled a popup a few times. We've tried every route over the years but now we take I75 only, it's the most consistent drive overall in all weather scenarios, it's also easiest on me as the only driver and has the most roadside services. I strongly recommend you buy the book Along I75, it's a drivers guide to this route from one end to the other.

Sweetwater KOA is our stop over if driving in 2 days. We prefer to go down over 3 days so we arrive early or mid morning, in this case we stop in Cincinnati at a flying J and the KOA in Valdosta GA which is right at the Florida border
