As a college student, I have had the pleasure to partake in a wonderful staples calle Top Ramen and Cup o' Noodles. Now, there is so much I can take of this stuff (it is 10 cents a package) I propose a challenge for a Dis'er here to think of a new idea for Top Ramen. What I mean is, think of a new recipe that involves Top Ramen. It can be anything from a salad to new herbs an spices you put in your soup. I have looked up some recipes and they look ok, but I would like to see what some people turn out.

This is my family's favorite salad currently:
(I cheat and use bagged shredded cabbage...I also sometimes omit the almonds but I always use the sunflower seeds)

CABBAGE RAMEN NOODLE SALAD

1/2 head cabbage, finely chopped
4 green onions, chopped
1 pkg. Top Ramen noodles (beef or chicken), crumbled
1/2 c. sliced almonds
1 pkg. sunflower seeds (optional)

Mix together except the noodles and refrigerate a few hours.

DRESSING:

2 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. vinegar
1/2 c. salad oil
1/2 tsp. pepper
Flavor packet from the noodles

You could make a stir fry (or buy a bag of frozen stir fry veggies) and serve over Ramen.:confused3

I usually just saute chicken and broccoli and then mix it into the Oriental seasoned noodles. My family loves this(Oy but the sodium!)

another stir fry fan here, almost made this last night for me and the kids but we weren't hungry enough, as DD put it! We've started cooking them in the microwave too, if you like more noodles less liquid, simply break the noodles thoroughly, sprinkle all or part of the seasoning pack over them then add enough water to we them, but nowhere near the two cups for soup. COver and nuke for 3 minutes then let stand. THis works extremely well with the creamy chicken flavor!

Oh yeah I forgot. I boil the noodles the 3 minutes then almost completely drain them and then add the packet.

Ah now I think I need to have this tonite.

When I wanted something different and something really quick, I would cook the noodles and drain them. Toss the flavor packet in the garbage and instead, use jarred spaghetti sauce. The noodles are flavored straight out of the bag, so when you add the spaghetti sauce, it gives you a slightly different flavor than when you use traditional boxed spaghetti. I called it poor man's spaghetti since you don't add any meat.

I used to buy a jar of kimchi and mix it with the ramen noodles. It is really spicy and yummy. in college, I used it as a hangover cure. The sodium and fat helped cure the headache. Ramen noodles are so yummy and sooooo bad for you.

I used to make a mac and cheese equivalent for my son... he used to LOVE this!

Boil the noodles for a few minutes, not to much, till al dente. Drain and add a teaspoon of butter and put a square of cheese on top and microwave. Stir...instant Ramen Mac n Cheese! ;) You can add peas and carrots or broccoli to make it a meal.

I haven't made it since my son was in elementary school but I remember him loving that stuff!

Back in college when I did not care about my sodium or fat intake I would whip up this meal for lunches.

One package of raman cooked then drained
2-4 Chicken nuggets cooked in toaster oven
Ranch Dressing

Chop up the chicken nuggets
Add to cooked drained raman
Add Ranch dressing until you reach your desired level or saucy-ness

Some days when I feeling especially deprived of salt or fat I would had a small handful of shredded cheese.

Man, now I totally want this for lunch.

Mmmm fat.

Mmmm sodium.:thumbsup2

For a side dish, cook the noodles as directed and drain.
While still hot, add 1/2 package of cream cheese, whole package of the seasoning and mix. You can also use some heavy cream instead of the cream cheese.

Going to try some of the other ones above soon.

I just simply add a slice of cheese (kraft sandwhich slices). Just cook them like you normally do, leave a little water in, then, add seasoning packet, add a slice of cheese, It makes it creamier!

My DBF does this too...but I like the juice..it makes it soupy :)
I also only do half the packet and add salt and pepper, I like that flavor better..

What a great idea!! I'll have to try that!

Like Java, when making them stricktly as ramen noodles using the packet, I drained the noodles almost completely, then added the packet to make the dish really thick.

Does anyone else like them this way, but prefer to eat them after they have set for a few minutes to get slightly cold and clumpy? I know, probably gross to most, but I love them this way.

When I was going through chemo treatments the only thing that my stomach could tolerate was the chicken flavored Ramen Noodles.
My son used to make them for me.
boil the noodles in 2 cups of water, add 1/2 packet of flavoring (I was on chemo, the spices were strong) remove from heat and add 2 raw eggs. Stir till eggs are cooked.
I know, the regular way to cook them, but it is a great meal for sick or disabled. My boys loved them with eggs but all the spices.

Argh, I used to have the most awesome recipe that called for Beef-Flavored Ramen Noodles... I wonder if I could possibly ever find it again, it was soooo stinkin' yummy.

I'll have to look for it tonight when I get home. :lovestruc

I used to drizzle a beaten egg into the soup while stirring. It gave it hot and sour soup type of egg threads.
