Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Tower at Contemporary Resort - *2 New Parties Added! “Enchantment at the Top” & New “Bound to Be Bad” Dates Added

They have only used the Membership Extras language historically when it is a Direct Member Requirement. They have explicitly used it here and added the disclaimer to the announcement at the bottom regarding direct benefits.

I hope this is right, I bought some BLT points just for the reason to stay and go to TOTWL sometimes.

Reading into which way? That just having one gets you in? Or that since resale have it? I don't think that DVC would have gone through all the trouble of using the words "eligible members" if were including everyone.
But where does DVC say that? Perhaps I missed that link. I fully expect that the hard-ticket event is only open to "eligible" members, but all the information I see still indicates that the lounge is generally open to all members.

I'm confused, is the party on certain nights or does it run all the time with fireworks? So can the cheap people ( me:wave:) still go up to the open area just for fireworks?

I am not if you look at the website the first asterisk is for the party. The 2nd is for access to the lounge. We are reading it differently. I am reading that is webpage is mostly for the party. Also, if there isnt a difference why do you need the 2nd double asterisk

The ** is referring that not only do you need to be an eligible member, but you also need to have the WDW reservation. So the first * is saying you must be a member eligible for membership extras...that is requirement number 1.

The ** is telling you that you also need the reservation, and the card..its to make sure people know that having a reservation alone won't do it.

What do you the main title is about the party
The party is not called A Villain's Lair.. that is what the lounge is now being called permanently. The party is set to happen prior to the opening on the 11th.

They're likely making it more kiddy-friendly.

There is a special hard ticket event planned prior to July 11th, the official opening night. That will cost money. Starting July 11th, it will be open every night (except block out dates or if they have paid private events) It is no longer just called TOTWL....it is now TOTWL - A Villian's Lair. They are referring to the nightly events as a "party" but not in the same way that the hard ticket part will be.

The language I posted above is for the nightly events.

I can see how that would make sense. I just think that adds to overall confusion. you could have just added that whole sentence under one asterisk.

my guess is we will see come July 11th. or reach out to DVC tomorrow once it is officially announced.

If by "cheap", you also mean you spent enough dough to qualify for membership extras, then you should be able to get up there still on most nights.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong...I don't know all the legal verbiage.

But, I was under the impression that TOWL access was the only perk that they couldn't touch? (Take away) I can't remember if it is dues or the Owners Association or what it was.

I seem to remember that a couple of years ago, when they shut TOWL down for a paid party, I can't remember if it was New Years or July 4th or what it was. And there was an outcry and worry that DVC would make TOWL paid-only. And, I can't remember what show or podcast it was, but it was said that they couldn't do that, that it was "written into..." again, I don't remember the verbiage....written into the bylaws? written into the contracts?

Does anyone remember this?

Just one more thing to be taken away from resale members.

Which was the entire purpose of why DVD went to making incidental benefits part of buying directly from them. I think in the end...don't think pool hopping will return...that resale members won't even have a digital white card on their accounts so that only those with membership extras will have one...along with the DVC Y.

IIRC, even now, the MM pass for resale owners no longer have the option in choosing the DVC picture...

TOTWL is a commercial unit. It is not part of the common elements at BLT and therefore, owners have no right to the use of it. Prior to this, Disney leased it and agreed to allow DVC owners use of the space...but it is not required. It is in no way funded by owner's dues.

But there is nothing to prevent DVD and Disney from deciding...which they have...to change its use to being member only spot. Like the Epcot Lounge, DVD must be paying Disney for its exclusive use for those eligible for membership extras...

More Details Released for Top of the World Lounge — A Villains Lair at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Disney has released more details about Top of the World Lounge — A Villains Lair at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, which will reopen to Disney Vacation Club Members on July 11, 2022.

Eligible Disney Vacation Club Members with access to Membership Extras who are staying at a Disney-owned-and-operated hotel at Walt Disney World Resort (whether they booked with Vacation Points or cash) will have access. Guests staying on the Member’s reservation may accompany them. Eligible Members can enjoy the lounge with one party per day.

The lounge (or lair) will be open from 6:00 p.m. to midnight daily. Check-in starts at 5:45 p.m. Complimentary parking for Disney Vacation Club Members will be available starting at 5:00 p.m. Eligible Members must present their digital Member Card and photo ID. The lounge will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until it reaches capacity.
The lounge will have blockout dates for holidays and special event nights.

So far, the following dates are blocked out:
  • July 3
  • July 4
  • December 30
  • December 31
There will be new villains-themed food and beverage options, including the Seven-Lair Cake. No outside food or beverages may be brought in.
There will also be new furnishings and artwork. Classes and events at Top of the World Lounge will be announced later.

Here is the backstory for the Villains Lair from Disney:

Discover the untold story of this covert hideout for some of Disney’s most dastardly villains. Even the ruthless relax.
Whether pursuing puppies or stealing souls, messing with a mermaid or belittling a beast, evil-doing is exhausting. And since a dishonest day’s work is frowned upon by mainstream masses, the deliciously devious decompress away from judging eyes––hiding deep underground… or on top of the world. Swapping stories of sabotage and toasting with tales of terror, the unsavory unwind in places inaccessible to the innocent.

So, when our own Top of the World Lounge temporarily closed its doors atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, it didn’t take long for the idle enclave to become a devils’ playground. We’re not sure how they got here (we can only guess by monorail), but we do know they were here. For when we returned to reopen this picturesque place to mingling Members, we found stuff left behind by these hustlers in a hurry.

Curious couture from their wicked wardrobes. Artwork befitting their ghastly galleries. And rebellious recipes for their cunning concoctions. That’s when we did what so many great Cast Members have done before us.
We gave the place a longer name. Welcome home to the Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair. Like the best Disney stories, it’s a place of magic… with a touch of tragic.

That may be true. But, that wasn't what I was asking. I was asking if anyone remembers what I had mentioned?

Because I distinctly remember it being said that TOWL was the only perk that couldn't be taken away, and it was because of something about how the (something, fill in the blank) was written up.

Just asking if anyone remembers this train of thought.....and if I'm not crazy, and other people remember it too.....then where did that logic come from? Were people just making it up?
