Top Chef All Stars starts 12/1/10! No ADVANCE Spoilers!

Because they were erring on the side of conservatism. If they taped her and something happened that caused an infection or she lost feeling in her finger, etc., they might have been sued.
I don't know. Chefs cut themselves all the time. It comes with the territory. She might have been able to sign a waiver or simply refuse to go. Other chefs have cut themselves pretty badly but didn't leave. And I don't think anyone on any episodes was ever sicker than Angelo last season, yet he still participated as much as he could and everyone respected that. Most contestants probably wouldn't have left unless their fingers were hanging off.

I'm glad that Jen is gone. She had such a bad attitude and was so snarky and unpleasant that I was not looking forward to watching her the rest of the season. I was surprised that Tre didn't go for his oversalted sauce, but I think that Jen's undercooked eggs were a bigger problem.

Jen didn't have the undercooked eggs, her's were just hard boiled and unspiced. But, the judges DID say her pork was nicely seasoned. Did everyone miss that? Only her eggs were a bland problem.

That put her dish on the level of Trey's oversalting. Usually oversalting is such a big no-no, that the judges always send the person that oversalts home.

Did anyone else notice, ALL the dishes on the other team got rave reviews. Not a single one of them was criticized in any way for being bad.

On Jen (Tiffani's) team, ALL the dishes were bashed in some way, except Tiffani, who had immunity. :rolleyes1

I think that's why Jen defended her dish so rigorously. She knew if she had been on the winning team, they would have raved over how well her pork had been seasoned.

The frittatas were the undercooked eggs.
I think the judges gave the frittatas a pass because it was an equipment problem. I would think the gals know enough to keep turning the trays around to to cook evenly, so it sounds like the oven was just not working right.

Maybe this means that they can bring Chef Ripert back now :cool1:.

I'm wondering if this isn't more why she was sent home extremely early. Now the producers have plenty of time to plan to schedule in Chef Ripert into the show. :rolleyes1

After the way Jen acted last night I was happy to see her grow. She was on of my favs during her season but last night she irked me. Her yelling back at the judges seemed so out of character.

I liked Jen a lot in her season, but I'm glad she's gone after last night too, especially since I was worried they were going to eliminate Tre, and I did not want to see him go. And I think she was incredibly rude and disrespectful to the judges.

I liked Jen, too, her season. She might have been missing her meds. There is another current thread on medication for mood swings.

I noticed last night, everyone was just expected to sleep on those cots. NO ONE had been prepared for that overnight "outing." I'm hypoglycemic and have anemia & hypothyroidism. The hypoglycemia alone, would have done me in, if I wasn't able to have protein right before bed. I don't usually carry TWO days of meds with me for the anemia & hypothyroidism. Missing ONE dose for one of those conditions is enough to set me into a raging tirade. Missing both, no sleep, not enough proper food, and maybe add PMS on top of that, yeah, I'd be worse than Jen. :furious: :duck:

Except the wrong one won.

Yes, Brian was consistently stronger all season.

I think he didn't come back as he has nothing to prove. His career is probably doing well and he doesn't need the PR from the show.

I completely agree with everything you've said. I was just suggesting that the medic would have suggested leaving the kitchen to get stitches because he/she didn't want to get sued for suggesting to her to duct tape her thumb and continue to cook.

If it was me, I couldn't imagine NOT staying in the kitchen when the winner receives so much. I wouldn't want them to throw me out because I had to get two stitches in my thumb.

Like the judges heard, no one cared that Jamie had gone. It didn't make a difference whether she was there or not. Could this be an omen of things to come? Hmmm...

Thanks Imzadi!! (actually heading to Manhattan next week! Dining at Lupa for my berfdai, ever been?)

I AM SO IN ON THIS THREAD!! I AM A TOP CHEF FANATIC! :rotfl: :lovestruc

No, I haven't been there. :) Dress warmly, we've been hit with a cold wave. But, being a N. Englander, you are probably more prepared for that weather than we are.

She looked so combative from the moment she walked in, although that could just be how the edited the episode.

I am so happy Wiley Dufresne is on! :cloud9: I love him :lovestruc

What can I say, I have a thing for geeky guys with glasses

I'm curious - the breakfast was for kids right? How many of your kids would have eaten any of that? - Not saying it was bad or anything - in fact some of it looked quite good - but I don't think my boys would eat much of it.

As to Jen going home - I think she was probably one of the stronger chefs who had a bad day - she looked like she knew it too - maybe that's why she was arguing so much...I seem to remember her getting an attitude at times during her season, but nothing like this...

Sorry to see Jen go. But this season she was coming across too cocky for me, and I know that was her plan (with her comment of the new Jen allstar). It was unfortunate though, she was a real talent and was a better team player when she was humble.

I am SUPER happy to see my man Richard Blais though. He is who I am rooting for the most. :cheer2: GO BLAIS!! :cheer2:

HEY! that snippit of next week's show. Was that Spike copying Marcel's hair?!?!?! :scared1::scared1::scared1: :rotfl2:

Glad Stephen is finally gone. I was surprised to see him admit that he just wasn't as good as the other chefs. Didn't think he had that much self awareness. He always seems delusional about his grandeur.

I was fine with Dale leaving.

Whew! Fabio lived to make it through another show. :yay:

I'm worried about Carla. Her simple, basic cooking may not be enough to compete to the end. :(

Fabio, too. His rustic, down home style may not make it past another couple of weeks.

But what we sometimes forget is that both of them are classically trained, they just prefer to cook more simply than some of their colleagues. Carla especially when she deconstructed that sauce during her season? What an incredible palate and her technique is impeccably French, she just doesn't trumpet her training.

I knew it was those two who would go last night. I also think the Judges were gunning for one of the better-known contestants in an early round to let the viewers know and the chefs know that no-one is safe...it just happened to be Jennifer.

agnes!

I thought it would be Fabio. I think Anthony Bourdain is gunning for him. they edited in his comments about Fabio again last night.

Who do you want to win? I WAS a Jennifer fan but now I think I'm behind Trey, Dale or that guy with the spiked hair-old brain, cannot come up with his name.

Oh, that's right! She got that French chef to cook for and she knocked it out of the ball park. Yay! :woohoo:

I don't remember Fabio being classically trained. :scratchin I do remember he was able to hold his own against Hosea & Stefan, who should have won.

Totally agree that Anthony Bourdain is after him. Seems like he relishes to make snide comments about his food.. which I like, don't get me wrong! :rotfl: I think Fabio is a phoney, he may cook well but not a top chef.

I love Tre, his attitude rocks. But my vote to win is Blais. Blais!!

Richard Blais seems like such a nice guy and I like Carla too. There are some contestants that I would really want to eat food that they had cooked, somewhat because they do seem so *decent*, like the food would just taste better kwim (Carla, Blais ::yes:: and the Voltaggio brother who didn't win). And conversely there are some Top Chef contestants that because their personality is so poisonous?... I think their food would taste the worse for it :crazy2: !

I think that's why Fabio didn't go home. They didn't want it to look like Bourdain is gunning for him, and make it look like he was unfairly sent home.

I think Richard & Angelo will make it to the finals.

As for Tre, what attitude? He has the quiet personality of a rock. :confused3
